What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Tobias Santelmann, Thure Lindhardt, Millie Brady, Alexandre Willaume, Julia Bache-Wiig, Joseph Millson, and Peter McDonald. An adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s novel series, The Saxon Stories, the historical drama follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Dreymon), the son of a 9th Century Saxon nobleman. After killing his father, Danish invaders kidnap the boy and he is raised by their warlord, Ragnar. Years later, when Ragnar is killed, Uhtred vows to avenge him, even as he returns to Bebbanburg to claim his birthright.
The Last Kingdom has been renewed for a third season which will debut TBD. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Unless Netflix decides to release streaming “ratings” it is always difficult to gauge the success of streaming TV shows, like The Last Kingdom. So, let’s look at what we do know. Netflix became a co-producer after the first season ran on BBC Two in UK and BBC America in the US. And in the US, the second season will have its first run on Netflix, leaving BBC America out of the picture. They must have some faith in the project. Provided the show continues to do well in both the UK and in the international markets that get the series via Netflix, I suspect The Last Kingdom will be renewed for season three. 9/26/17 update: Though a season three renewal hasn’t been announced, there have been reports of season three casting and filming.

Please, please, please renew for another series and just continue right to the end of the books. Really love this show – the acting and the drama and so original re the time in history – really brings it to life. Thursdays aren’t the same anymore now. Am sure it is hugely popular.

This is a very classy series and it would be cruel in the extreme to deprive those who have followed the first two series faithfully by not allowing us to see the next series. The story should be allowed to play out to the end. It has all the ingredients that keep myself and family glued to the screen. It has a talented cast and full on action all the way. Please, please give us more of this powerfull drama.

The Last Kingdom is one of Netflix’s best and there is plenty of material left to continue with many more seasons. I will be finished with Netflix if they drop this too.
Dropping Beowulf was devastating. If The Last Kingdom is cancelled or dropped, this will show a pattern.
I will not invest my time in another Netflix series if they don’t have a minimum of 3 Seasons of The Last Kingdom.
Great show. Great writing. Great acting. Great history. This one has it all. PLEASE do season 3….and 4,5&6!!!!
This has been a consistently excellent show with character development, as well as acting, cinematography, a little education thrown in. There are no slow spots, no unbelievable parts. Please go for season 3 AT LEAST!
LOVE THIS SERIES!!! It was TOO SHORT in the second Season!! NEED WAY more that 8 episodes in SEASON 3! WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH!!!
For real. I just finished season 2 and I feel empty inside knowing I will have to wait for the next. What’s worse, is not know if there will be a next.
Best series on. If Netflix does not renew, I will look to Amazon or Hulu to find something interesting
