What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Tobias Santelmann, Thure Lindhardt, Millie Brady, Alexandre Willaume, Julia Bache-Wiig, Joseph Millson, and Peter McDonald. An adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s novel series, The Saxon Stories, the historical drama follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Dreymon), the son of a 9th Century Saxon nobleman. After killing his father, Danish invaders kidnap the boy and he is raised by their warlord, Ragnar. Years later, when Ragnar is killed, Uhtred vows to avenge him, even as he returns to Bebbanburg to claim his birthright.
The Last Kingdom has been renewed for a third season which will debut TBD. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Unless Netflix decides to release streaming “ratings” it is always difficult to gauge the success of streaming TV shows, like The Last Kingdom. So, let’s look at what we do know. Netflix became a co-producer after the first season ran on BBC Two in UK and BBC America in the US. And in the US, the second season will have its first run on Netflix, leaving BBC America out of the picture. They must have some faith in the project. Provided the show continues to do well in both the UK and in the international markets that get the series via Netflix, I suspect The Last Kingdom will be renewed for season three. 9/26/17 update: Though a season three renewal hasn’t been announced, there have been reports of season three casting and filming.

Please, please continue this show. The acting is excellent and the story line and twists and turns are all believeable. The story isn’t finished. Keep going! I have to know if Uhtred gets his kingdom.

We are obsessed with this series! Cannot wait to see a next season. If there are 10-11 books you cannot just stop at book four. It is to good!
This series must NOT end!! I have marathoned the first two seasons, and I need more Uhtred!! I love the characters, the interplay, I love the conquests. There have been a few silly steps, but no show is without that. I just absolutely adore this show and would be devastated by its end. I agree whole-heartedly with the other comments. There is plenty of content yet to be explored in this series, give me MORE!!
The Last Kingdom is an excellent series which I would love to see continued with season 3. It is a great basis for a continuous series of many seasons. I would be very disappointed to see it end.

The author has created more than enough content to continue filming and with the outstanding work of the cast and crew, it is an obvious must go for season 3, 4, 5, & more. The gods have spoken so let’s keep going. 😉
Awesome show! Binge watched the first season! I was hooked half way through the first show! I was super excited when I found season 2. Just got done binge watching the 2nd and I’m even more hooked! Please please I need more!
