Is Elliot Stable returning to Law & Order: SVU? TVLine reports Chris Meloni may return for the NBC TV show’s upcoming 21st season.
Meloni played Detective Elliot Stabler on the crime drama from seasons one through 12. The series currently stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Philip Winchester.
Although Meloni hasn’t announced return to Law & Order: SVU, showrunner Warren Leight says he’s hopeful the former star will reprise his role in the future:
Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off.
It would be tricky, because it’s now been eight years since the characters were seen together. So how’d they get in touch? We haven’t seen it. Where has he been? How do you explain that? There are storytelling challenges to it.”
Season 21 of Law & Order: SVU premieres on NBC on September 26th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. ‘

I wish ADA Barba would come back, and it would be fantastic if Elliot returned as part of the team. His children have grown so it’s time for him to return, and ADA Barba just took a leave of absence.
The last few seasons before he left the show it seemed that Stabler’s personal life were important than the cases they were trying to solve. My family has enjoyed the current lineup very much. Although, it would be interesting now that Benson is in charge of the unit.

I believe that Chris Meloni should return.. nothing against Mariska Hargitay but he was Law and Order:SVU.. Mariska basically was his handler and kept him in line.. I really don’t care for much of the new cast..but them two made the show popular along with Dann Florek..Ice T.. Richard Beltzer..and of course Tamara Tunie..but to me it’s retarded that y’all want him to return in later episodes..when he does return..(if he does) he deserves to be Benson’s right hand or at least the captain..hell maybe even chief of D’s..but I just don’t watch the much of the newer episodes..and I… Read more »

I love this show, always have! All the actors have been great, but the characters of Eliot & Olivia together have such a special and intense bond. The show has been missing that special spark since Chris has been gone. I would love to see him return and reprise his partnership with Olivia & the rest of the team. That would make this show be “can’t miss tv” for me on Thursdays,` as “This is Us” is on Tuesdays!
