Is Elliot Stable returning to Law & Order: SVU? TVLine reports Chris Meloni may return for the NBC TV show’s upcoming 21st season.
Meloni played Detective Elliot Stabler on the crime drama from seasons one through 12. The series currently stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Philip Winchester.
Although Meloni hasn’t announced return to Law & Order: SVU, showrunner Warren Leight says he’s hopeful the former star will reprise his role in the future:
Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off.
It would be tricky, because it’s now been eight years since the characters were seen together. So how’d they get in touch? We haven’t seen it. Where has he been? How do you explain that? There are storytelling challenges to it.”
Season 21 of Law & Order: SVU premieres on NBC on September 26th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. ‘

Yes, please bring Elliot Stabler back. The writers can certainly be creative in bringing him back where it would make sense.

I agree with John W Cary, that if Stabler’s character is brought back, it should be in a different capacity or department. Personally, I am not a fan of bringing him back as a permanent character, but a cameo of a few episodes would be interesting.
I think that Benson’s character has grown and been through so much that trying to bring the Stabler character back into SVU wouldn’t work. SVU has a great make up with the characters that are there. I wouldn’t want to see that messed with.

Stabler can come back after years of being away he’s retired from special duty undercover in forign country’s and couldn’t get back with Olivia . He was married but wife was killed now he’s back looking for her killers. How’s that for a way to reintroduce him.

Absolutely Stabler needs to come back he and Benson are the perfect team
It’s about time Elliott Stabler returned to SVU maybe in a different capacity while joining forces with Lt. Benson and company in solving a case with one twist after another; not to mention the reignited chemistry Benson and Stabler would have.
My husband and I love this show so much we watch the re-runs over and over. Would love to see “Stabler” come back! Powerful Charisma with everyone on the show. Especially Marshka.
My absolute favorite TV show! Been watching since the very first episode. I loved Stabler and I also love the cast now. But I think it would be fantastic if he came back, even in an occasional role. Stabler decided to leave because he shot a teenage girl. So it wouldn’t be that difficult to find a reason to get him back. Look at the length of time that Cassidy was gone then came back. It’s absolutely possible!
