We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

They were in Itasca and Covington Texas today filming. Guess no one told them.
@Michael Wayne: The decision was made late today. I don’t think you’ll see them back there tomorrow.
I liked it. I’m sorry to see it go. I don’t think they gave it enough of a chance. I was really getting into it.
I loved that show it really bums me out to see that fox cancelled it!!! give it a chance !!!
I agree with Barry. This show did not get no chance to survive. Apparently the watchers that were monitiored don’t want to use the thing between their ears.
How can those who live in the ivory towers make dumb decisions after one showing.
My feeling is it was doomed before the 1st show, which means big shots had something against the shows writers, producers, etc. Can you say POLITICS??
And yet junk like Simpsons continues on.
I had a feeling it would get canceled. I did not like it much. I found the father more interesting than the main character. Won’t miss the show.
Don’t go against MNF fox, come on now!
Good show, damn shame it was canceled.
We tried to DVR the show, but DirectTV didn’t provide the channel. I smell sabotage.
I also enjoyed this series. Perhaps they should have gone in with a defferent namy.
lots of people I talked to thought this show was a western and did not even bother to check it out. (GREAT SHOW)
I have to agree they canceled this show way too early. How many great shows required us to think; Lost. This show could have been really good.
I thought it was one of the better shows of the new season.
What about the ones of us who were enjoying the show??? FOX Give it a chance. Give it another time slot. You have it up against Dancing With the Stars and Monday Night Football.
I liked the show very much. Fox did ot give it much of a chance!
There was something wrong with the show. It was interesting, but there were many inexpected cuts that made me loose my train of thought and interest at times.
What the heck! Give it a chance! Fox screwed the pooch on this by not advertising it enough. This was a great show- well written and smart. What the hell is wrong with people?
Oh yeah- when you watch trashy reality TV (DWTS, etc.) you don’t have to use your brain to actually follow a plot, so……..advertising probably wouldn’t have helped anyway.
right on dude,
The show was well written and talked about the concept of money vs. family in a unique way. I was looking forward to more episodes and honestly thought it was better than many of the other new shows this season.
