Walt Longmire is a short-timer. Netflix has renewed its Longmire TV show for a sixth and final season. The first three seasons of the contemporary western crime thriller premiered on A&E. When the cabler cancelled the series, Netflix picked it up in November of 2014.
Based on the Craig Johnson mystery novel series, Longmire follows Absaorka County, Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor). Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley, and A. Martinez also star.

“We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories. Most importantly, we’re committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty,” said executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny.

There has been no better team to work with on this show than Greer, Hunt and John, and their tremendous cast and crew, and we have every confidence that they will have a satisfying conclusion to this revered series. We are grateful to them and our friends at Warner Bros, who have been tremendous partners.”
The final season of Longmire will consist of 10 episodes. Season six will premiere in 2017 in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Fans React to the News that Longmire will End After its Sixth Season on Netflix
While Netflix has doubled the drama’s cable run, fans (aka the Longmire Posse) have actively advocated for renewal in seasons past.
In the fall of 2015, they organized a social media “stampede,” to petition the streaming service for a fifth season. Netflix finally picked up season five, on Halloween 2015.
Today, the Longmire Posse’s Facebook post reflects both sadness and gratitude. Because the writers have an end date, the have the opportunity to craft a proper Longmire TV series finale. Check it out.
What do you think? Are you a Longmire fan? Is it ending at the right time? Sound off, in the comments.
A tremendous production. It’s a classic. I’m sorry to see it coming to an end. Hopefully there will be more of Longmire planned in the future.
I never thought that I would care so much about tv show. but this one was special from the writing to the acting. Great characters. I will miss this show.
SO SAD! Would love another 7 seasons
It is VERY disappointing to have a quality program cancelled. I MARVEL at, or rather suspect the beans, as in bean counting didn’t add up. Since Netflix is a subscriber service you would think they would have the where with all and shekels to continue quality programming, but then again Longmire isn’t a comic book story. The characters actually had some depth to them, and the story line actually had a plot you had to think about to follow (vs. gratuitous bone breaking, sledge hammer violence, et. al.). Walt and company were not anti-heroes. There was really very little blurring… Read more »
Bring back Longmire
Please bring back Longmire. Best show. My family loves this show.
I just finished season 6 and there are still more stories to tell. What happens with Ferg and Meg? Vic and Walt? Cady and Zach? My husband and I are huge fans, would love for Netflix to keep it going. The show is well written and the actors are amazing. Netflix, please reconsider.
I love Longmire! I think there are many ways to increase viewings and followers if that what this is all about. The creativity has lessened, perhaps because of all of the rumors of it being cancelled, but it would be so easy to “spur” it back to life for several more seasons. It is hard for viewers today to get hooked because as soon as you are “all in” it goes “all out.” I leave that to USA, as they are the worst at keeping the best.
I am sad but not surprised.
over the last 30 years there’s been many shows canceled that have been very good like Longmire. the shows that remain on TV with poor writing – silly laugh tracks- dumbing down to the audience remain on TV. I just DO NOT understand the reasoning behind ‘the suits’ thinking.
Its sad to see a series as great as Longmire be cancelled my wife and I couldn’t stop viewing this program and have waited patiently for season six and hope this will continue for many more.
We’ve been fans of Longmire since it first started on AMC, and got Netflix for Longmire. After it’s gone, I’ll probably cancel Netflix. Nothing else on there I just can’t do without.
This is a great series with exceptional stories. My wife and I are ardent fans and hope it can continue beyond six seasons.
Love, love, love this series. All my friends and family were hooked on the series after I told them about it. Patiently waiting for Season 6!!! Glad they are not leaving it as a cliff hanger. I too would love to have a few more “Seasons” to tune in.
We are so grateful there will be Season # 6 of Longmire. We watch 2-3 episodes every evening we are home. We would like to continue for a long time following theses characters… Season # 7 would be welcomed by a great multitude of followers!!
My husband and I started watching Longmire a month ago and just finished Season 5!!! It is so well-written and acted that the story consumes a lot of our thoughts – we often talk about who’s to blame – whats going to happen next, etc. Now we re wondering if truth WILL prevail and there will be peace in the lives of the characters of Longmire!! We will definitely watch any further seasons you choose to make and can’t wait for Season 6 to start!!
