The original MacGyver TV show enjoyed a seven season run back in the 1980s and was a ratings success for ABC. How will this new version perform for CBS? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned to find out.
On MacGyver, a twenty-something adventurer named Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Lucas Till) creates a secret organization within the US government. Mac uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Co-starring are George Eads, Sandrine Holt, Tristin Mays, and Justin Hires.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/23 update: MacGyver has been renewed for season two on CBS. Details here.
10/17 update: CBS has given MacGyver a full season order. Details here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the MacGyver TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season CBS?
They minds well call it Team MacGyver. The plots are thin and the guy they have playing him sucks so I say cancel it. Richard Dean Anderson made the original series, He is and always will be Mac!
This show should be given a second season, because it just started. If it doesn’t get better by the second season. Then pull the plug.
Cancel this **** right now! Before they destroy all the dignity from the old series!! that guy playing the Mac´s role is a child, what a shame! a pretty boy in the Richard Dean Anderson´s place!!! he seems about to break himself. i suffer a lot watching him, so delicate, so cute. Ah….****** series! they don´t deserve a second chance, while anothers better are being unfairly cancelled. i hate remakes.they rarely works.
MacGyver adjusted down to a 0.9 in the finals.
Seriously this show needs to be cancelled. You have to suspend all sense of reality in order to watch it.

This week’s episode was definitely better. I want to like it because I really like Jack and Riley. I do love all the nods to the original series. They just need to make the situations less staged ( Mac always was traveling, noticed a problem and, unlike the rest of us, chose to step in) and write the new Mac a bit more humble (original MacGyver was very unpretentious). Those were two features of the original series that made MacGyver so likable.
I wanted to love it very bad. It’s absolutely dreadful. Not sure what CBS sees in this show that makes them want to keep it. Unless there are promises of a complete gutting of the writers, producers, directors, special effects people and even the caterer. The ratings of viewership prove how awful it is. People are no longer watching. I would like to see numbers on viewers who start watching but change the channel. I bet that number is shockingly high.
They should just call the show Jack Dalton or Riley as I know more about their characters then the one that matters most. Maybe next time a network decides to reboot a franchise with one focal character they don’t try to jam down our throats stories of a half dozen more characters in 40 minutes. I don’t think Pete Thorton showed up until Season 2.
We’ve already had an updated “MacGyver” show … it was called Burn Notice. And while it was cheesy, it was infinitely better than this. The worst thing about this “re-imagining” is the lead. Either he has no acting skills … or the direction is abysmal … take your pick. Instead of Richard Dean Anderson’s humble self-effacing MacGyver … here we have an self-important arrogant ‘know-it-all’ with a likeability factor of -50. You just can’t have a successful show where the main character is so unlike-able. The writing/plotting and dialogue are also terrible. The thing is … the basic MacGyver premise… Read more »
The effects are terrible, explosions, bullet impacts, they’re all CG done with what I can only assume is free software on a 7 year old laptop. The “writing” is atrocious. I don’t think anyone could have failed to get the icredibly cliche she’s alive and a bad guy “twist” immediately. Lastly there’s the casting. Seriously. Richard Dean Anderson at least had a little charisma, this guy has all the charm of a brick wall with a unsightly stain. Sadly I think a major consideration for the casting was age (or apparant age) so that the lazy writers can wheel out… Read more »
Terrible science. Throwing plastic jugs filled with gasoline and having them explode like a bomb? Spilling alcohol on a bar, lighting it on fire and having it burn bright orange with a flame a foot high off the table instead of a blue flame that could hardly be seen? Making low light glasses with no power source? Driving a car through a closed garage door and then being able to drive out without having any type of problem with any part of the car, not even a dented front end or broken light? The original show had bad science, but… Read more »
I want a new A-Team TV Series.
Why, we couldn’t even get a decent A-Team movie. What are the odds we could get a good A-TEAM TV series. The guy who played Murdock in the original series Dwight Shultz (sp?) made you believe he was crazy. In the movie however Liam Nesson was good at Hannibal, and the guy that played Face wasn’t great but not horrible either. BA was so so. But it was too painful to watch the guy trying to be crazy Howling Mad Mudrock.. Too many times I’m just like he’s just pretending to be crazy and failing. I never felt that way… Read more »
