If Elizabeth McCord wants to become “Madam President”, she better hurry. CBS has announced that the Madam Secretary TV show will end with its upcoming sixth season. There will be just 10 episodes in the final season and they will begin airing in Fall 2019.
A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl announced that there won’t be a seventh season at CBS’ upfronts press breakfast earlier today. Kahl said, “They’re going to do 10 episodes in the fall and tie up the storyline. We’re happy and excited to do that for Téa, the cast, and the audience. It’s hard when a show ‘just poofs and goes away.’ We like to be able to do this and send the show off with a great deal of respect and celebration. Everyone appreciates when we are able to do that.”
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think season six is a good time to end this CBS TV show? Would you have watched a seventh season?
Madam Secretary is our favorite show. We have been disappointed that it was moved to a late night time slot and sometimes even later (or not at all) because of football game overrun. Am wondering how you get fair ratings for a show when that happens? We think it is a unique show, with some very thoughtful political themes and also wonder what has made CBS decide to end it.
We love this show and will miss a program that tackles many social/political issues in an adult manner.
We enjoy this drama combining family and politics. Hope another network picks it up for January and beyond.
This comes as a great surprise. What kind of input made CBS TAKE THIS STEP? It’s hard for me to believe the ratings were downe. On top of that, there’s so much fodder out there to draw from.
I love Madam Secretary and would love for it to continue or even a new show with her becoming Madam President.
I would love it to keep going for a 7th! It is an excellent counterbalance in my life to current real life Washington DC politics … and Leoni is my heroine!
Would love to see a 7th season. I agree with Susan, Madam President? who knows this might follow real life.
Getting junk shows to replace good shows like Madam Secretary. Sad
Absolutely I would watch a 7th.season. cause I love the actors , I think.it should be turned into Madam President and let it continue !!
We love this show! Right from the beginning. So upset to see it ending so quickly. Seems like too many good programs are getting cancelled.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! The best series on television1 I would absolutely watch a season 7, 8, 9, 10…
Really enjoy this series. Definitely would have watch season 7.
I love the show Madame Secretary. I would definitely watch more seasons and I am sad to hear that there will not be a season7. It seems all the intelligent, well written shows do not last and the poorly written and/or unintelligent shows survive. That leaves very little to watch on TV.
Absolutely love this series! Definitely want to see her elected President. Time we had an independent, intelligent woman president. Must continue this series!!
Have so enjoyed Madame Secretary and really wanted to see her elected President.
