A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
The fifth season of Madam Secretary averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.41 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 9% and 12%, respectively.
Out of the 26 scripted CBS TV shows of the 2018-19 season, Madam Secretary is in 24th place in the demo and 18th place in total viewership.

What do you think? Do you enjoy the Madam Secretary TV show? Will you be watching season six of this CBS drama series?
Madam Secretary is an articulate, engaging show. Fantastic acting, great story lines but please stop bumping the show. People don’t know when or if it’s airing. Show was bumped a lot in Season 5.
I’m so glad to hear of the renewal of this program for another season. It’s my favorite! It’s interesting and intriguing but without the ugliness that characterizes other programs.
Hell, I’m 73 and wife is 71 and we stop whatever we are doing to watch this show. It is intellectual (I have a PhD), and so is wife. It parallels conventional politics to the point we like it very much; seems to do a better job than present day politics. Don’t know how ratings are calculated, but many of our retired friends feel the same way about the show. I really do not think the matrix for calculating is accurate. Maybe the calculation matrix is the problem not the show. There is so much time-wasting junk out there in… Read more »

I love this show! I’m so glad it has been renewed!
it’s our family’s favorite show. we can all watch together, and it so relevant! so happy to see it’s been renewed.
It has always been a mystery to me why CBS, and I assume advertising executives evaluate the success of Madam Secretary based on viewers ages 18-49. Based on my personal experience the primary audience for this show is 50-80!!
Most of my close friends – who are retired from demanding careers, but stay active in civic affairs, wish there were more shows like MS that conscientiously model the democratic values and purposeful engagement that is sorely missing in our society today.
Thank you to the 18-49 viewers who helped save this show for your moms & grandmas!
Glad Madam Secretary has been renewed. Great show! If it was in a better time slot, it would have a larger audience.
Well written, well acted. MS is one of the very few shows on TV that is a joy to watch.
This is the best show!!!
So glad Madame Secretary has been renewed. It is pne of our favorite CBS shows. Such a breath of fresh air from the absence of values in our current White House!
