A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
The fifth season of Madam Secretary averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.41 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 9% and 12%, respectively.
Out of the 26 scripted CBS TV shows of the 2018-19 season, Madam Secretary is in 24th place in the demo and 18th place in total viewership.

What do you think? Do you enjoy the Madam Secretary TV show? Will you be watching season six of this CBS drama series?
Love this show. I think some people are still discovering how good it is for the first time. My daughter finally watched an episode and has now binge watched past seasons in anticipation of the new season. The show has a great cast & is well- written.
I’ll miss “Madame Secretary” when she goes at the end of 2019!!
Real happy M.S. returning for another season. Why more people dont watch could be the time slot. Glad not on Netflix as some predicted like Designated Survivor.
I love this show! Maybe putting it in a better time slot would increase ratings. Glad to see we’ll have another season!
Our family and friends are all so glad Madam Secretary was renewed-we think it is the best show on tv and never miss it ! I hope the ratings are better this season- maybe a different time slot – too many preemptions currently.
Thanks for renewing-we will be watching and encouraging others to as well!
Sad there is only 10 episodes of Madam Sec. great show. Hoping for a 7th
My husband & I faithfully watch Madam Secretary (on DVR). It is intelligently written, and a breath of fresh air, addressing issues that are current, with fervor, passion, and insight. Te’a Leoni is fantastic as Madam Secretary, or future Madam President. The ntire cast does a superb job, and makes this a believable and highly watchable and enjoyable show. We are very pleased to see there will be a 6th season. We can’t understand why there is a low rating. Maybe better advertising could help. Love the subtle humor and warmth as well. I am 58 my husband is 62.
Perhaps the ratings of Madam Secretary would improve if CBS would stop interrupting the show for awards shows. It is frustrating to get to watch something on and off. We love this show but it is always being preempted for some nonsense.
The Code is something I have finally had time to sit and watch. It is really good. Give a new show a chance to get an audience. You have good actors and good plots.
Love the show glad it was renewed. I’m sure the time slot attributes to it not being as popular as it can be. Will be watching !!!
Good decision. Madam Secretary is one of the few really quality shows on network tv. I’m glad it’s renewed. Love that they address current issues in brilliant and classy fashion. Keep them coming!!
CBS just ruined my Sunday night. Thanks for nothing CBS! I know now why it is cancelled.
It has nothing to do with viewers.
You kept moving it back later and later so it would FAIL.
Thanks for nothing. You ruined my Sunday night
If had a better time slot would have better ratings.
No did not watch this past season, the show got old and repetitive. Will not watch the upcoming season.
Can’t wait for season six. I watch it in the UK it gives us brits an insight into American politics. Only thing they moved the live slot to 10pm mid week it’s a pain when previous seasons have been shown at 9pm. Must admit season five was not up to to the strength of past seasons. But a 2 week mid season break was again a pain. Is season 6 to be all about the race for the White House but not see her become President a shame.
I think having Madam Secretary on at 9 PM on Sunday night is part of the problem. When football or golf go over their allotted time, all CBS shows get pushed back. The 9 o’clock program may not start until 9:30 or 9:45. Maybe you can’t watch it and you can’t set your VCR because you have no clue what time it will start and end. I think changing days or times would allow more people to watch and enjoy.
