TV show description:
Based on the 1980s Tom Selleck vehicle from Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson, the new Magnum PI TV show was developed for television by Peter M. Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim. The action-adventure crime drama centers on private investigator Thomas Magnum (Hernandez).
Upon returning home from Afghanistan, Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL, decides to put his military skills to use as a P.I. He also lives in a guest cottage on the Robin’s Nest estate, where he serves as a security consultant. In addition to being a bonafide American hero, Magnum is a devout Detroit Tigers fan and something of a charmer.
A beautiful, impressive, and disavowed MI:6 agent, Juliet Higgins (Weeks) serves as the estate’s majordomo. She too has a second job — keeping Magnum in line, which she does with a little help from her two Dobermans.
When Magnum needs help on a case, he calls in his former comrades-in-arms, POW survivors Theodore “TC” Calvin (Hill) and Orville “Rick” Wright (Knighton). TC was a Marine chopper pilot and now runs Island Hoppers, a helicopter tour business. Meanwhile, former gunner Rick now runs a hot nightclub on Oahu and has connections all over the island.
Detective Gordon Katsumoto (Kang) isn’t thrilled that Magnum shows up at so many of his crime scenes, and the PI’s casual demeanor also gets under his skin. Katsumoto would be hard-pressed to admit how similar he and Magnum are at heart, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.
Rounding out the crew is Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, who serves as the “House Mom” and cultural curator at the Robin’s Nest. Magnum is ready to crack the case with his team at the ready, a vintage Ferrari at his disposal, and his trademark aviator sunglasses.
Series Finale:
Episode #96 — The Big Squeeze
Magnum and Higgins take a major step forward in their relationship. At the same time, the past comes back to haunt them when a previous suspect becomes their client. TC aims to scale up Island Hoppers. Rick gets a new business partner.
First aired: January 3, 2024.
What do you think? Do you like the Magnum PI TV series? Do you think NBC should have cancelled or renewed the series for a sixth season?
RENEW OR ELSE!
I love the new Magnum PI please renew it
The new Magnum PI is far better than the original let’s hope it gets renewed
I love the show, it’s got everything a viewer looks for. Crime, investigation, exciting plots, comedy. I watched the show Magnum P.I. Back in the 80s which is still in my opinion a classic. I actually watch the old Magnum with Tom S. I believe this show will get more people watching if you have more exciting crimes, and more comedy like the old show relied on. If you know anything about the old show of magnum back in the 80s it brought a lot to the viewers, one thing missing in this magnum is he don’t use his gun… Read more »
I am actually ready to revolt. every time I get into a good show you cancel or delay it just to revive some other canceled show, and that makes no sense. Please just keep both shows. Jay makes this show his own and Higgins being a woman adds to the plot. Personally I would like to see the writers broaden the plot to include Robin Masters playing cupid with the two former MI6 and Navy Seal characters. Does he hire both of them who suffered broken hearts with no plan? You don’t have to remake Magnum as it was. I’m… Read more »
I still from time to time watch The old Magnum P.I. Such a classic.
New Magnum PI show – Sucks. They need to find new actors that are look more like the original actors as the new cast sucks & lacks visual acceptance.
I disagree with your comments. You are too tied to the old Tom S. If you must see him, try Blue Bloods. This as a new show based on the old one and it needs some time to get the cast established. Please don’t dump it into a low viewership time spot. Give a good show a chance.
Please Please Please renew the show…..
Continued
As a huge fan of the original series, and not often a fan of remakes, I was pleasantly surprised with the New Magnum P.I. The heads behind the new series have successfully made it their own while keeping it relevant in the time yet paying enough homage to the original. They clearly respect the original series and what it stood for. If they tried to simply “remake” the series, it would have failed. The added bonuses are the sup plots in each episode and the military respect.
This is not a good show; it is a GREAT ONE!! Love the weekly stories (funny and exciting drama), how veterans are portrayed and valued, and how the character development has evolved during this second season. Perdita Weeks is awesome as Higgins. Please keep renew for several more seasons!!
Awful show, boring, acting not convincing & just does’t have the quality of Tom Selleck & his team before. Really should not be continued.
Magnum P.I. is coming along to be an ejoyable program. While I definitely had a problem wanting to watch it in the beginning since I’m from the era of Tom Selleck’s character, I am now enjoying Jay Hernandez. I do think adding Weeks as a side kick for Magnum is an excellent choice. Together, they make for a fun and enjoyable team along with his WOW buddies. This is definitely another program with good, wholesome entertainment. Another keeper!!
I enjoy the show! I was in my latter 20’s when the original started and never missed a episode. I didn’t know if Tom S. could be replaced playing the lead or the chemistry between the supporting cast could match the original show. After two or three episodes I found I enjoyed the new cast
I was too young to remember much about the original Magnum P.I. I knew that Tom Selleck was the star and my mom really loved the show. I enjoy this new Magnum P.I. I like the stories and the interaction and development of the characters, and I hope it has many more seasons. Jay Hernandez is a great Thomas Magnum.
I thought the character Thomas Magnum couldn’t be played by anybody other than Tom Selleck…I was wrong…Jay Hernandez is a suburb Thomas Magnum…Hope this series last as long as the original…
this thing is still on I thought it would have been canceled a long time ago not even close to the great show it was with Tom Selleck no wonder he did not want anything to do with it Higgins as a women don’t fit just like the name don’t fit a mans name on a women they show just shut this down I guess CBS has money to burn when running this and the MacGyver one too they could do a lot better
