To no surprise, The CW has cancelled their remake of Melrose Place after just one season and 18 episodes.
The new Melrose Place revolves around the same apartment complex as the 1990s original but largely focuses on a new group of characters. The cast includes Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, Shaun Sipos, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Nicholas Gonzalez, Victor Webster, and Brooke Burns. Appearances by actors Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, and Daphne Zuniga help kept ties to the original alive.
In September, despite a lot of promotion, the first episode attracted a small 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.31 million viewers. The numbers fell after that and never came close to even matching the premiere’s. The April 4th episode hit a season low, with a horrific 0.4 rating in the demographic and only .86 million viewers.
Even for The CW, the new Melrose Place’s ratings were absolutely terrible. Though the last episode of the season left many storylines up in the air, there was no way that it was going to be coming back.
Well, the network made it official this week. Melrose Place has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two.
What do you think? Why didn’t this version catch on? Was it a bad idea from the start? Would it have survived if Heather Locklear signed on at the beginning or was including original characters part of why it failed?

Cancelled new MP! I am disappointed. I was just looking to update my DVR to record the new season and discovered this. 🙁
I did watch the old MP also. I think this one was good after they got rid of A. Simpson (she can’t act!).
OMG…It was just getting good. Dont they remember that this happened to the original one as well and thats why they brought in Locklear! They didnt even give it a chance. It takes time to build a story line. I was bored a little at first but i gave it a chance and got to actaully love the show and have been waiting for the premier. Just to find out that the stupid network cancelled it. CW is horrible. Another network should grab this opportunity fast.
In my opinion, New Melrose Place did not survive till upcoming seasons because it was not advertised enough. i think it should have been aired on the main channels ike the BBC for example. i think the CW made a bad decision and if they continued to air the episodes it would be a hit
However on the fiver website it say that melrose place will be airing on the 4th of october at 9am. i am not sure if this is the re-make or the ol version.

Loved the show. CW has nothing else that good other than 90210. Storyline was great. Good to see the previous cast members.
Oh hell no!!! What is wrong with the CW.. no bring it back I loved that show. All my family and friends come to my house to watch it and we have our own club disscussion on it.. please bring it back…….
I am beyond upset. This was the one show i found entertaining and couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen! With all the other stupid shows on TV i can’t believe this one can’t go 1 more season to have a finale or something.
Just a quick comment from Denmark: CW you suck. How can you leave us in suspense and the cancel? Even for a muhamed drawing country this absolutely unaccepteble.
I LOVED the new Melrose Place. It was far from terrible. I used to watch the orginal Melrose Place and I thought this was very well written, interesting and fresh. The whole gang of us watched it … 4o something.
I am so disappointed; this is the first time i hear about this….i cant believe it…..that show was great,i even had my husband hooked on it ^ he hates watching girly shows…
Anyone who liked this atrocious travesty obviously never watched the original. This was the most ridiculous excuse for a show I’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing.

I jsut found out about this. I was waiting for the new season…This sucks, I loved the show and it is way better than the remake of 90210 which I don’t like at allll..,. 🙁
No way! The CW totally bites! Bring back the show…. I demand it know along with the other teenager in this house.
