Back in May 2008, after Moonlight had been cancelled by CBS, there was some talk of the vampire series moving over to the CW network. The Media Rights Capital (MRC) company had purchased CW’s Sunday night timeslots, to fill with their own content.
Unfortunately, MRC was committed to using their own shows (a move that certainly didn’t work out very well) and Alex O’Loughlin, Sophia Myles, and Jason Dohring had to start looking for other work. Considering that there are still thousands and thousands of loyal Moonlight fans, you have to think that somebody is regretting the decision.
Well, it took almost two years but Moonlight is finally coming to the CW network. Unfortunately, no new episodes are being produced. The CW will pair the 16 existing episodes with reruns of The Vampire Diaries beginning Thursday, June 3rd.
Here’s the official press release.
“MOONLIGHT” TO SHINE ON THE CW
Acclaimed Vampire Series starring Alex O’Loughlin Joins “The Vampire Diaries” On Thursday Nights Beginning June 3May 6, 2010 (Burbank, CA) — Summer just got a lot scarier on The CW. The network will air the acclaimed drama MOONLIGHT on Thursday nights beginning June 3. MOONLIGHT will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, following encore episodes of the first season of the The CW’s hit drama, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
On MOONLIGHT, Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) is a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles, who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon). Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef (Jason Dohring), a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. One night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can’t pursue without exposing that part of him that would make him a monster in Beth’s eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that CW or any other network has any plans or interest in resurrecting Moonlight. O’Loughlin is expected to be busy with the new Hawaii Five-0 this fall on CBS (which co-owns the CW network).
What do you think? Will you be tuning in to watch the Moonlight reruns?
No, I don’t receive the CW, I have ATT U-Verse.
if yall hade to take a movie off take that 70;s show off,and then but blood ties on the cw as well as moonlight and vampire diaries and smallvill off, just take off that 70 show and then put blood ties, please i love all of them show’s but that 70 show please take that one off the air,and replace it with blood ties on the cw,
i would also like to see blood ties come to the cw yall have moonlight comeing back and then yall have my other vampire movie it is vampire diaries and now all i need is for blood ties to come to the cw,so please bring it back to as well,
I will stick to watching reruns of MOONLIGHT on SyFy (formerly the SciFi channel). The CW had the chance tokeep this show on the air, but instead chose to populate the airwaves with more insipid crap. I even gave them a chance with Reaper, but they cancelled it! No way will they get me to add to their viewership numbers!!
Loved Moonlight, thought Alex O was the best looking vampire out there. I was extremely upset that CBS was ignorant enough the kick off a good show, while leaving the same old CSI crap on, even expanding until we’ll probably see CSI: MARS! Why do they always cancel the good shows? I LOVED Reaper, and as usual, the idiots in charge 86’d it. Maybe they should poll people before they cancel the shows to see exactly how many fans are out there.
I am psyched about this, but why did it take them so long to see the light (or dark as the case may be)? Moonlight started the vampire trend, before True Blood and Vampire Diaries and was an amazing show that should not have been cancelled. Too bad it’s too late for new episodes to tape as AO is busy with Hawaii 5-O.. Such a shame.
ABSOLUTELY LOVEDDDDD MOONLIGHT!!!! My girlfriends and I (and even my husband on occasion ) watched MOONLIGHT EVERY WEEK!!!! We LOVED the characters and the sexy tension between Mick and Beth !!!! We are ALL THRILLED to FINALLY HAVE MOONLIGHT BACK On the CW!!!!!! To bad CBS didnt see how many fans are out here!!! I ‘ve had so many conversations when even strangers about why DID CBS cancel that show?? I hope THIS time CW learns from the mistake and CONTINUES with MOONLIGHT!!!! AMAZING SHOW!!!! THANKS CW!!! ~ ~ ~ Barbie
This was one of my favorite shows during the abortive 2007-2008 TV season, and I was very sad t0 see it go. However, since then, the SyFy (aka SciFi) channel has shown it many times in re-runs. As much as I loved Moonlight, it seems rather pointless to show the very same re-runs on the CW. Are Vampire Diary fans going to save it? Very doubtful that it would even be revived at this stage anyway. I suppose the CW is just desperate for anything “new”…
I would watch Moonlight it was my favorite show. They also need closure if this doe not last long. They always cancel a show I find to watch that is great.
So great shows like Veronica Mars and Reaper get cancelled, to make room for reruns?
will completely agree, Reaper was so funny-I had to watch it every week. Why did they take it off? The new 90210 is some of the crap that should be taken off. I guess if you want to watch the CW, you’d be better off being a 13 year old boy who wants to see girls making out wearing practically nothing.
This was such a great show..great cast and fabulous cinematography. No devotee of vampire stories this one really captivated me. I even featured the show in my internet magazine usually devoted wholly to classic film. check it out yourself. http://www.arabella-and-co.com/40/moonlight.htm
I will probably watch it. although, I don’t think it should bump Supernatural into the Friday time slot. I do own the DVDs..so, it is kind of pointless to rerun it without new episodes. Unless, CW just wants more vampires on Thursday night.
I can’t believe that show had more than a few fans. The writing was amateurish and cliche, and the acting awful. A good basic idea was buried under a truckload of mediocrity. Since it’s already available in DVD, what market will there be for its reruns?
Wth is the point of this? Honestly! Supernatural is getting bumped to Fridays when it has OWNED Thrusday nights for 5 seasons, for reruns of a show that isnt even getting new installments? Stupid. Hey I watched Moonlight and it was a cute enough show, but this is pointless!
Yes, I will definitely watch Moonlight on CW. I watched it on CBS on Friday nights, bought 2 DVDs of the series and will watch it on CW. Just one of many Alex O’Loughlin fans. 😉
