Back in May 2008, after Moonlight had been cancelled by CBS, there was some talk of the vampire series moving over to the CW network. The Media Rights Capital (MRC) company had purchased CW’s Sunday night timeslots, to fill with their own content.
Unfortunately, MRC was committed to using their own shows (a move that certainly didn’t work out very well) and Alex O’Loughlin, Sophia Myles, and Jason Dohring had to start looking for other work. Considering that there are still thousands and thousands of loyal Moonlight fans, you have to think that somebody is regretting the decision.
Well, it took almost two years but Moonlight is finally coming to the CW network. Unfortunately, no new episodes are being produced. The CW will pair the 16 existing episodes with reruns of The Vampire Diaries beginning Thursday, June 3rd.
Here’s the official press release.
“MOONLIGHT” TO SHINE ON THE CW
Acclaimed Vampire Series starring Alex O’Loughlin Joins “The Vampire Diaries” On Thursday Nights Beginning June 3May 6, 2010 (Burbank, CA) — Summer just got a lot scarier on The CW. The network will air the acclaimed drama MOONLIGHT on Thursday nights beginning June 3. MOONLIGHT will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, following encore episodes of the first season of the The CW’s hit drama, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
On MOONLIGHT, Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) is a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles, who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon). Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef (Jason Dohring), a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. One night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can’t pursue without exposing that part of him that would make him a monster in Beth’s eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.
Produced By: Silver Pictures Television in association with Warner Bros. Television
Executive Producers: Joel Silver, Chip Johannessen, Ron Koslow, Rod Holcomb and Gerard Bocaccio
Co-Executive Producer: Trevor Munson
Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that CW or any other network has any plans or interest in resurrecting Moonlight. O’Loughlin is expected to be busy with the new Hawaii Five-0 this fall on CBS (which co-owns the CW network).
What do you think? Will you be tuning in to watch the Moonlight reruns?
I just discovered this show this summer and we love it! It is sad that such an excellent show got cancelled when there is so much junk on TV.
It would be AMAZING if it could be brought back.
the other show that we love is Supernatural!!!
Seriously loved this show. I know a bunch of other people who feel the same way: we just never knew about it before. Maybe if it had been advertised better?… Anyway, I agree that we need more. One season was not enough! I am so tired of great shows being canceled, and I have to say, this is my favorite so far.
This is a great show. I like it even better than Vampire Diaries. It is more entertaining than Diaries, more story content. Just keep it going. I know there are thousands of people out there that want the same thing. MAKE THIS PART OF THE NEW SEASON OF SHOWS! KEEP IT GOING!!
Moonlight was an excellent series. I don’t care if they make a movie or if they bring it back….I just want more of it. After watching Moonlight I felt silly being a fan of the Vampire Diaries. Even though I am entertained by Vampire Diaries, Moonlight is had content!!! It could become as successful as other CW shows, such as Supernatural and I dare go there….Buffy. I watched Buffy, Sueprnatural, Smallville and Vampire Diaries from the beginning and I can tell when a show has “the right stuff” to succeed with a fan base and Moonlight has IT!
What a great series. I just hope the network is intelligent enough to keep it going. I’m just sorry it took me so long to find it.
I would deifinitely watch it and I’m not alone :)))
Alex/Sophia/Joseph Rule!!
Well I am one very happy camper for sure!! It was happenstance that I had the TV on the day the series started back in June. My husband, such a dear guy, has bought me the DVD of the show (and I did not know it existed!). That Mick, he just is one sexy “guy” – and I am glad for Beth. It’ll work out for them, trust me on that one.
i think u should keep the series going. and go on to the 2nd series it was getting so good please ~
I’ve never seen it, and now, thanks to reruns, I think it’s the most wonderful vampire series I’ ve ever seen… THEY HAVE TO BRING NEW EPISODES!!!!!!!!!! It’s the combination of everything: storyline, the characters, the actors who play them… I’m tottaly heartbroken that they ended it like that!!!!!!!!! So many things thay can tell, and Mick, Beth and Josef deserve a well planned ending! I WANT TO SEE MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will definately be tuning in. Couldn’t believe they cancelled this so soon!
This is an amazing show. For the sake of the fans it should return! Besides it. Was a crappy way to end it anyways so its meant to come back!
OMG!!! I am so happy to hear that Moonlight will continue!! I will definately autotune it every Thursday. I am such a moonlight fan. Was so disappointed that it was canceled. It seems like all the great shows are cancelled and the stupid ones last for years. Thanks CW for reviving one of my faves.
I love moonlight. I just wished more episodes would be produced. I wonder if they’re any plans to do that?
Sorry not at this time but we are pushing for a movie. Vamp movies are hott right now…
TRUE BLOOD RULES! Moonlight is in a distant second place and Vampire Diaries is a poor Twilight (which I hate) knock off!
OF COURSE true blood rules and im reading every book! But c’mon! moonlight was JUST getting there! it needed a second season to see where it was really going… it just started off abit slow but the story was wonderful and the actors were really good… yes! i think i will join that group for the movie! i would totally love to see a movie made!!! 😀
Ummmm if you were to look at the publish dates of Twilight and Vampire Diaries Twilight came out AFTER Vampire Diaries so Maybe you should know what your talking about to avoid making a complete ass of yourself: Vampire Diaries copyright 1991 Twilight copyright date 2005
im soooooo happy!!!! EVERYONE KEEP YOUR TVS ON AFTER VAMPIRE DIARIES! THEY MIGHT JUST MAKE THE NEXT SEASON OF MOONLIGHT!!!! but then what will happen to supernatural that usually comes on after vampire diaries :'( ???!!! wtv! im sure they’ll find a spot for supernatural since its so darn popular 😀 (i love that show too hehehe)
I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF MOONLIGHT (even with its super corny name)MAKE THE SECOND SEASOOOOONNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved Moonlight from day one. I am watching the reruns and wish we could see new shows once in a while or maybe a couple of movies.
We’re pushing for a movie. Series is not going to happen with the leads already committed to other shows. We all miss Moonlight. Believe me Moonlight fans fought hard to get it back. If you would like to join us talking about our face show come join us at http://wwmoonlighters.ning.com
Oops that should say fave not face! LOL
