FOX BOOKS “MURDER POLICE” WITH 13-EPISODE ORDER
New Animated Comedy to Debut During 2013-2014 Season
FOX has picked up MURDER POLICE, a new animated comedy that follows a dedicated, but inept detective and his colleagues – some perverted, some corrupt, some just plain lazy – in a twisted city precinct. David A. Goodman (FAMILY GUY) and Jason Ruiz – one of the writers/ animators discovered through the Fox Inkubation program – created the series, which is expected to debut during the 2013-2014 season.
“David and Jason came to us with a really fresh take on law enforcement that we’ve never seen before,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “With MURDER POLICE, these guys are taking a staple genre of television – the cop show – and turning it on its head by pushing the warped comedic boundaries that only animation can offer. It’s the kind of show our Animation Domination fans will absolutely love, and I can’t wait to introduce it next season.”
MANUEL SANCHEZ (voiced by co-creator Ruiz) aspires to be a good cop, but his efforts to solve crimes are constantly put in jeopardy by his own clumsiness and the incompetence of his fellow detectives, including his partner, TOMMY MARGARETTI (Will Sasso, “The Three Stooges,” “MADtv”), a tough, rule-breaking “bad cop” who can’t interrogate a suspect without beating him up.
Voice actors on the pilot include Jason Ruiz as MANUEL and MARIO SANCHEZ, Will Sasso as TOMMY MARGARETTI, Chi McBride (“Hawthorne,” “Human Target”) as RANDALL HICKOX, Horatio Sanz (“Saturday Night Live”) as DONEL, Penny Marshall (“Life & Times of Tim,” “Laverne & Shirley”) as SYLVIA GOLDENBERG, Peter Atencio (“Key and Peele”) as CAPTAIN JOHN RUSHOUR and Justina Machado (“Private Practice,” “Six Feet Under”) as ROSA SANCHEZ.
MURDER POLICE is created and written by David A. Goodman (FAMILY GUY) and Jason Ruiz. Goodman serves as executive producer and Ruiz is co-executive producer. The series is produced at Bento Box Animation for Twentieth Century Fox Television.
What do you think? Does Murder Police sound like a show worth checking out?
I think you should come up with a different name other than murder police especially after the shootings in Connecticut, fire fighters, etc. Bad title.
Hmmm, if it replaces that lousy show about burgers. I will support it.
Somebody should tell FOX that calling their Sunday Night “Animation Domination” doesn’t make it the dominant force in the ratings.
Actually, personally, I’d keep The Simpsons because it is an institution and every episode adds millions for FOX in the future and re-build the rest of the night.
There is also nothing “fresh” about the graphics of that show which lends credence to the belief that their “inkubation” program is just yet another Hollywood smokescreen for “let’s hire our buddies”…
