FOX launched a TV show called New Amsterdam back in 2008 and it was cancelled after one season. Now, NBC is trying a new series with the same title but a very different premise. Will this New Amsterdam series survive longer than the last one? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A medical drama series, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold) is a caring and charming physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/15 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the New Amsterdam TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season two on NBC?
*2/4/19 Status Update: NBC has renewed New Amsterdam for a second season.
The so called “Sharpwin” continued storyline is getting tedious. They act like love struck teenagers instead of 40 yr old professional doctors ( with one being married no less) . Show was better when emphasis was placed equally on all cast members and they all had some sort of interesting personal life. Can see why 18-49 yr old viewership has gone done.
I love New Amsterdam!
LOVE NEW AMSTERDAM!!!
This show is tied with Grey’s Anatomy as my favorite medical drama ever! Ryan Eggold is an exceptional actor and he brings such amazing qualities to his character that it makes you believe in true kindness. The entire cast is perfectly picked and extremely talented. The show makes me feel things I’ve only felt during a handful of shows in my entire life. The story is truly inspirational and pulls at my heart strings every episode. I am so thankful to hear it’s been renewed for another season because I don’t know how I would have dealt with the disappointment… Read more »
Each & every episode is poised with a touching, meaningful delivery. That characterizes very few on Primetime television. Ryan Eggold gives an outstanding performance. Period. He is the true bait of this show. The supporting cast is genius. New Amsterdam is, undoubtedly, the very best show of the 2018-2019 season. Keep showing us more, NBC!
Amsterdam is my best MEDshow…the main actor just pulls me in to the New Amsterdam…GREAT SHOW…
My thoughts, exactly.
Great show with interesting and relevant themes
I love this show!! The storyline and Max’s desire to make positive change in a rigid system, the cast, their heart, the diversity, the dialogue, the pace, the music – I love it all. This is actually the only show I make an effort to watch on TV and I hope it stays around for more seasons!
Since this show is based on a true story it makes it all the better. It’s refreshing that someone who has devised good is getting recognition. I hope it will be around for a second season.
Great, GREAT Show!
I have watched all five episodes of New Amsterdam. I’m impressed with the casting, the story premise and the emotional authenticity. Sure, some episodes are a little better than others, and the level of Mgmt authority sometimes stretches the bounds of credibility for a hospital, but that’s to be expected and can often be overlooked if the story, characters and outcomes are engaging. Episode five (10/30) was particularly touching when Max whispered to his wife on the dance floor after the fundraiser event. You didn’t need to hear what he said – you knew it was his diagnosis And as… Read more »
The world would be a much better place if more people spoke 4 words – “How can I help?”
The 2nd episode was essentially awful, but I really enjoyed the pilot and the third. Hopefully ‘New Amsterdam’ finds it’s footing and shows some strong consistency. I’m rooting for it! Great cast!
I was turned off by the numerous previews. If I didn’t like them, which is to be the best of the show, I know I wouldn’t like the whole show.
Liked New Amsterdam. All the actors did a great job and were believable. As a black woman I liked that the black physician (can’t remember his name) wants to have his children be black. I know some people will see this as racism, but I just see it as being proud of your black heritage. I will resign myself, however, if and when he ends up with the white physician
They will definitely end up together.
And I will dump the show. It’s wonderful to see his point of view and not every black man needs or desires a white woman in their life.
Well, I live in South Carolina. Here 90% of black men have white girlfriends or wives, 5% are gay and have white boyfriends, 4% are single and 1% have a spouse of the same race. It wouldn’t be surprising if on New Amsterdam he ends up with her, although I would like to see him with the cancer doctor who’s trying to have a child.
And if a white woman tells the same to a black man (I cant date with you cause you are black) would it be ok and will you see it as being proud of white heritage?
If she worded it like that, she’d come off as racist. He told her that he wanted his kids to be black, there’s a difference.
Correct me if I get you wrong)) So you mean that it is ok to tell a black person that “I cant get seriously involved with you because I want my children to be white”, is it right? to word it this way would be considered by you as being proud of white heritage, right?
