Can Doctor Goodwin change the medical system — and get people to watch the NBC series? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like New Amsterdam is cancelled or renewed for season two. Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated that their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we’d like to offer you the chance to rate all the season one episodes of New Amsterdam. *Status update below.
A medical drama series, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold) is a caring and charming physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital.
What do you think? Which season one episodes of New Amsterdam TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Should NBC cancel or renew New Amsterdam for a second season? Don’t forget to vote, and share your thoughts, below.
2/4/19 Status Update: NBC has renewed New Amsterdam for a second season.
Love the show and characters…but please get rid of the loud off alternative jazz drumming. It sometimes drowns out the dialogue…and is annoying.
Terrific show. Excellent cast and wonderful plots. I would not miss an episode.
I love this show and hope it is not cancelled. First show had me hooked. Shared recorded episodes with friends and now they are hooked. Ryan has a sweetness that is refreshing. Please don’t cancel
New Amsterdam is reviving medical drama
This new series “New Amsterdam” is the best of the new season. Max (Ryan Eggold) is excellent to play that character. He is such a compassionate and understanding doctor that he makes all of us wish our doctor was exactly like him! I hope it has a LONG run on TV. It is far above any other medical/hospital show.
NEW AMSTERDAM is so wildly different from the other medical-based shows because it rises above the fray with what everyone of us who has been in a hospital really believes is possible — though it’s not here yet: optimistic, 100% caring and compassionate doctors and nurses who put their patients’ wellness ahead of their personal glory and wealth and God-complex. These are the kinds of doctors who were revered a century ago, who were willing to sacrifice their time to truly help others. In this age of HMOs and doctors who must meet quotas for the number of patients seen… Read more »
Find this to be a very entertaining show, fast paced with interesting characters. I think that purists who criticize this show as being not a true to life medical drama should remember that this is not meant to be a medical documentary. I don’t think that any of the medical shows on TV are really true to life (The Resident and Chicago Med also take “creative license” to be entertaining). I find this show to be a welcome change of pace from all the cop/FBI dramas currently out there. Keep it up.
GREAT concept, amateur execution I was initially intrigued–enough to keep watching despite frequent errors, bad sequencing, illogical moves, bad staging, and bad direction/production. In a prior show, a woman is brought into the hospital in labor. She is placed in general population and is upset about their taking her baby. There is dissension about keeping her handcuffed, but her assigned guard won’t permit it. Later, instead of being guarded and handcuffed, they must find her in an obscure location. Apparently she’s in a prison ward that is located somewhere in the hospital with (as I recall) bars on windows and… Read more »
Season 1, Ep. 4 (10/16/18). I DVR shows I may not get to watch during actual airing time. Ep 4 had me in tears addressing a smart, young child’s questions about death while she’s being tested for return of cancer. Her questions are averted because brave faced parents cannot fathom the thought of losing their beautiful young daughter and having to be honest. After her questions are averted initially by mom, dad & the female English doctor’s charachter, the daughter matter of factly says “No one tells me anything”. SPOILER ALERT: Do not read on if you haven’t watched yet.… Read more »
Thought it was a great show. Love the cast interactions. The scene in the OR during the open heart surgery was amazing.
Thought 2nd episode of New Ansterdam was just as solid. Fast paced with just pt stories to keep from being boring. Cast is great, although I think there is no charisma between Max and his wife. Granted, she has nothing to do but lie in bed, but his exchange with his unborn child was more interesting than his interaction with her.
Loved New Amsterdam very much. Please don’t cancel.
I enjoyed the pilot. Only thing I’m curious about is how Ryan Eggold’s character will develop since their doesn’t really seem to be anything special about him other than the “lets do it different” approach. I realize that’s the premise, but I don’t see how that would be sustainable.
I’m wonderful why the show has to have a narrator the entire time. Really is annoying and makes the show unenjoyable!!!!!
Loved the 1st episode. Hooked already. I’m here for it! Excellent chemistry between cast members and Ryan ia delightful.
Hated all the translations when it first started there was no English at all. Won’t watch again
While I agree, there was a point to it.
