Rebel is one of the more surprising cancellations of this television season. ABC Signature President Jonnie Davis is the latest to speak out about the cancellation of the drama series after only four episodes into its season. It appears cancelling the Katey Sagal series was just as hard from the side of the studio.
Davis said the following about the decision made by ABC to cancel the series, per Deadline:
“We love Krista Vernoff, we made this incredible deal with her. There’s no better showrunner in town — and a creator by the way — and we were gut-punched about Rebel. We hoped that was going to get more time to fully find the audience, and if you’re reading the blogs right now, people love that show. We’re still licking our wounds on that one.”
Sagal and others have also spoken out publicly about the cancellation of Rebel. There is still hope the series could find a new home.

My husband and I LOVE this show. We were enjoying the character development, the humour, and the quick pace. The cast of actors is amazing. This cancelation decision needs a rethink. The show aired during the first bout of warm, outdoor weather after a long pandemic winter. People were not interested in TV as much, or maybe just bored with TV in general. Had this aired in the Fall it would still be on. Please bring it back. We need good shows on network TV.
Best show!!! Now I know why ABC is my least favorite network. Hoping cbs or nbc pick up the show. Shame on ABC
Don’t cancel this great show…. some other network needs to find it a home… makes it hard for me to watch new shows on abc.. I get into a fantastic series and abc cancels it…
Rebel is a great show, and needs to go on. Sadly, a big chunk of this sudden cancellation may be related to systemic ageism, intersecting with systemic misogyny. Perhaps it is time for the networks to attend workshops on social justice issues!
I am so stunned that Rebel is being cancelled…….really enjoy the show and sure hope that another network picks it up. Katey Sagal and Andy Garcia are a fabulous match!
Rebel is a great show! Wonderful characters with a fabulous cast! I can’t imagine why it is being cancelled! Who’s ever in charge needs to rethink this decision!

I am incredulous that “Rebel” is being cancelled. It’s a great show. So refreshing and enjoyable. Pleading another network to pick it up! It’s just getting going. Please!
Too bad incompetents are in charge of renewing (or not) television shows.
Although, by not renewing Rebel, they’ve proven their worth.

I am surprised and disappointed that Rebel is being canceled. It is a highlight this season. This fresh series offers excellent acting, good stories, beautiful sets and is very engaging, the hour goes by too quickly. I’m sure another station will pick it up, it’s a high quality production that is too good to shelf.
