TV show description:
A Shondaland period drama based on the Melinda Taub novel, the Still Star-Crossed TV show is a sequel the William Shakespeare tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. In the wake of the young lovers’ senseless deaths, Verona finds itself in the throes of upheaval, thanks to the Montague and Capulet feud.
Upon the death of his father, Escalus (Sulieman) is crowned Prince of Verona. He resolves to extinguish the violence tearing his poor city apart. His sister, Princess Isabella (Rahimi) is keen to help him rule, but she also thirsts for power.
Heartbroken and angered by their daughter Juliet’s death, Lord Silvestro Capulet (Head) and his wife, Lady Guiliana (Robinson) are desperate to maintain their family’s standing, regardless of whom it hurts, or how.
Meanwhile, Romeo’s father, Lord Damiano Montague (Bowler), who is also grieving his son, reveals that he was behind the plot to have the original star-crossed lovers fall in love and marry, to boost his own family’s standing. Friar Lawrence (Hildebrand), however, feels culpable for Romeo and Juliet’s demise.
To squelch escalating clashes, Prince Escalus decides he must unite the Houses of Capulet and Montague, lest the unstable Verona be conquered by an outside adversary. Now it will fall upon Romeo’s cousin, Benvolio Montague (Briggs), to marry one of Lord Capulet’s nieces.
Sisters Rosaline (Lynch) and Livia Capulet (Noel) were sent to live with their father’s brother, Silvestro, after their own parents died. There, Guiliana treats them like servants, despite their noble past.
A romantic, Livia has always dreamt of marriage, especially once she ended up a servant in her uncle’s household. Meanwhile, Rosaline eschews the idea and plans to join a convent. However, it is not religious devotion directing her path, so much as her lingering feelings for Escalus.
Despite returning Rosaline’s feelings, the young royal is hellbent on stopping the bloodshed in Verona. He issues a decree that Rosaline must marry Benvolio.
Meanwhile, although Romeo managed to wound Count Paris (Coombs), the young man survived. Now Nurse (Wooldridge) and Lady Capulet are struggling to return him to health. When Livia happens upon them ministering to his wounds, she is drawn into their secret.
Will Rosaline and Benvolio marry against their will? And if so, can they ultimately find a way to escape the marriage without bringing about the collective downfall of their families and Verona, itself? Might they fall in love, despite themselves, or will Rosaline and Escalus continue to pine for one another? Stay tuned.
Series Finale:
Episode #7 — Something Wicked This Way Comes
When Rosaline returns to Verona and tries to prove Benvolio’s innocence, Paris decides to take matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Lady Capulet’s relationship with Paris comes to a head, and a shocking discovery about Lord Montague’s past is revealed.
First aired: July 29, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the Still Star-Crossed TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I liked this series. It is rooted in the Shakespeare play; but goes beyond. I would hazard a guess this would make a class, who were dogging through the bard in a text, really perk up and take interest. I also found it invigorating to have a mix of races–this says the story and the characters are what counts; the actors’ ability to get the marrow out of each scene is what counts. I hope that Still Star-Crossed is back on the TV somehow somewhere! I would watch it and really let it soak in.
Most excellent series. Look forward each week to the next episode. Excellent actors. Believable storyline. Please renew.
Please keep this series…I’ve always loved romeo and juliet but this show is so much more than that! The building love between benvoleo and roseline is amazing! Please renew! !!
Please bring Stii Star Crossed back. I love the show so much until I kept the finale until Aug.20,2017 to watch. I’m good with Saturday nights being its new day because Saturday nights are alive now with something great to watch
Please renew it for another season – I really loved this show and could not wait every week to see what takes place. PLEASE do not cancel this show.
I am heartbroken. This is the best show in years. Truly entertaining! Not the mess of “real life”. The show left me on edge until the next show. Is there a chance that it may go to Netflix…I’ll join Netflix when it does….PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. Give it the opportunity for people to catch on. I can’t figure the title…I will sign the petition at http://www.change.org/
Genuinely enjoyed this & even though most know the Romeo & Juliet story, it was still fun to watch. Infinitely preferable to whatever iteration The Bachelor or Real Housewives is in , or God knows what other sludge is thrown at us! Please, please, ABC don’t cancel “Still Star-Crossed”. Failing that, perhaps Shonda Rhimes could take the series with her to Netflix. If ABC doesn’t want it, why can’t she take it back & take it with her? After all, didn’t she develop it herself? Anyone think it possible? Yes, will sign the change.org petition!
Go signe the petion at http://www.change.org if you think like that the serie should go on and not be cancelled
What is wrong with you people. You finally come up with a quality show and cancel it?? Guess it reflects the mentality of the average viewer
I love movies of this time, and this movie by far is one of the most romantic I have seen in a tv series in a long time. Please do not cancel, it will leave me wondering about the outcome. I was always waiting for the week to pass so that I could curl up and watch this amazing series. It wasn’t on long enough, just long enough to reel you in. I too am a romantic at heart, I can get into mysteries though, but this show stole my heart. Please bring it back I really think that it… Read more »
Please do not cancel this remarkable series with talented actors and incredible storyline! Compared to this show it’s difficult for me to understand how the other junk shows (attorney genre, etc) which lack any substance survive
This show was amazing, please bring it back! A nice to the garbage that’s usually on tv dramas, reality shows.
I hope the show will continue somewhere, thought it was great story
Please continue this program. I am a romantic at heart and thoroughly enjoy this era of love. I was very much looking forward to being captivated and escaping away each week. Don’t mess up a GOOD thing. It also is a very good way to help unite our so hurt and struggling nation to get our selves out of our heads and into our hearts, accepting one another regardless of race, status, etc. As Dion Warwick sang, “What the world NEEDS NOW is LOVE Sweet Love…” And although there are struggles, the ultimate goal is to come to PEACE. So… Read more »
ok, I, am 65 years old.. a male.. divorced and graduated from High School in 1969… English required .. Romeo and Juliet.. nice premise to continue on the Story Line. while I thought episodes 1 and 2 were a bit of a challenge while the director and actors found their legs… the rest were very good… I got involved in the plots the story fabrications and the fact of a continuing family saga.. a Dynasty with swords and blood letting.. but with great bad guys and girls.. ABC is missing the boat by cancelling .. but then .. ABC misses… Read more »
