ABC’s been having some great success with their Wednesday night comedy line-up but the execs have been trying to find a show that can fill the gap between The Middle and Modern Family. Last season’s Better with You didn’t measure up so cancelled that and are now trying Suburgatory.
Last night’s premiere, per the fast affiliate numbers, brought a 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.81 million viewers. That was a pretty solid number, especially leading out of The Middle which had a 2.6 demo rating. It ranked in second place for the timeslot.
Year-to-year, the network was up by 32% in the demo when compared to the series premiere of Better with You. We’ll have to wait to see if viewers come back for more in the coming weeks but this was a positive start and a good sampling for the new series.
NOTE: Updated season ratings are now available.
What do you think? Did you tune in to watch Suburgatory? Do you think it will last to be renewed or will it end up being cancelled after one season?

I enjoyed it very much. It needs a wicked sense of humor contrasting individual personalities with cloned petty personalities….but doing that all the way would probably narrow it’s appeal.
I watched it – it was ok. Reminded me of the original Stepford Wives movie. I think if ABC puts Tim Allen’s new show there, the ratings would certainly be great.
I tried to watch the premiere on ABC.com, and it had already been taken down. That makes me suspect it’s already been canceled.
