Last season, SWAT escaped being cancelled and ended up being the lowest-rated scripted series on CBS to be renewed. For 2021-22, the network relocated it to Friday nights where expectations can be lower but are still expected to perform. Is this the show’s last chance? Will SWAT be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A police action drama series, the SWAT TV show stars Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Lina Esco, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit. The crime thriller centers on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore), a Los Angeles native and former Marine who’s been tapped to lead a new “last stop” Special Weapons And Tactics unit (S.W.A.T.). The rest of the team includes seasoned David “Deacon” Kay (Harrington), cocky newcomer Jim Street (Russell), canine trainer Christina “Chris” Alonso (Esco), expert driver Dominique Luca (Johnson), and informant-connected Victor Tan (Lim). Responsible for the management of all Metro Division S.W.A.T. units is Commander Robert Hicks (St. Esprit), a senior LAPD official with the Special Operations Bureau.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
5/23 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season four of SWAT on CBS averaged a 0.42 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.16 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the SWAT TV series on CBS? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
*4/11/22 update: SWAT has been renewed for season six on CBS.
Yes please renew awesome show!!
The latest show I watched was great. It was all police drama. There was no Hondo’s girlfriend, his father, his mother, etc. Very enjoyable show and there was no police degrading or race. Good show. Show should be renewed.
We love Swat!! We watch it religiously and can’t wait for the next season’s. Please don’t cancel it! It is such an amazing show and it deals with lots of issues in a positive way! Please keep it going!!!!
SWAT Season 5 has been full of drama, excitement, everything one would want in a crime drama series. Every single episode has been raised a level up each time. Definitely does not disappoint at all. I can’t wait to see each new episode every week! SWAT Definitely deserves to be renewed for Season 6!!! Hurry up and bring back SWAT ! I love the storylines and all of the storyline. They are extremely talented and they worked hard and are well prepared for each and every episode. RENEW SWAT!!!!
I spoke to soon, last night I watched episode 10 and there was Hondo’s girlfriend, family convict and of course race. How many people know that the tattoo on the back of the convict guys neck, 187, stands for murder in the California Penal Code. The main part of the show was very good. Why can’t they stop the social stuff and bad mouthing the police. This type of stuff ruins the show for me. If it keeps up I may stop watching the show. The show should be renewed, without the race, etc. and stick to just police work.
I just watched show #9, taped. I thought it was a great show. ALL police action and very entertaining. Best part the show had NO race, Hondo’s girlfriend or Hondo’s family problems. I think it should be renewed and of course without the social problems and always bringing up the race card.
I think swat is doing great this season with all the actions. I like episode nine because it was a good episode to watch and see it was very good.
Just read all the other posts. They’re ALL Positive and Glowing – saccharine sweet.
Hmmmm. Bet mine will never get published, because it doesn’t fit with what Mainstream media wants us to see/think.
But REMEMBER – THE RATINGS HAVE TANKED. MAYBE I HAVE A POINT?
As someone who spent over 45 years working for Civil Rights in this country – to try and make this a more fair world – when I FINALLY get a chance to turn on ENTERTAINMENT TV – I DO SO FOR RELAXATION. I DO NOT WANT TO BE LECTURED TO, OR PREACHED AT by RICH TV Writers/Producers/Actors and suffer through their SUPERIOR MORALITY and OPINIONS on Race Relations and Politics. I worked in that business for 32 years – and trust me – they’re all only interested in making LOTS of MONEY for themselves. So when the 2nd Season began,… Read more »
SWAT needs to stay on Friday nights. I have never really like CBS except when it comes to Shemar Moore. SWAT is a great show so stop moving it around leave it alone. Why are you putting on Sundays when y’all know it won’t get good ratings due to football season.
I agree with Kim. Hondo was the main factor of the show. I can’t stand the new team leader. Of course it is leading to him ousted, I hope. The first show I watched brought us race again. I was hoping after last year the race stuff would end. I for one is getting very tired of it.
The writing and plot are terrible. The story line is good, but the writing bad. These are all signs of a change in staff and writers. And that it’s heading for low ratings.
I liked this show and how it was written a few years back. It’s headed out.
Ich liebe diese Serie, sie hat wirklich alles was eine Serie braucht
SWAT is by far the best TV action show on tv this season. Do not cancel or CBS will definitely lose viewers.
As soon as they demoted Hondo I lost interest in the show.
Hondo’s back as team leader. Shoulda gave it some time.
