NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Where do they get these numbers? Tis is a great show. Some of the shows being renewed do not compare! They should let people vote on shows after a season to get a real feel of the fans. Not someone who just likes to sit and watch antique roadshow and the news all day.
I loved this show…sad it’s cancelled. Networks don’t allow time to get really connected to shows anymore.
Look here NBC you better bring back this show it was one of my favs. This is crazy that you say the ratings was low. You guys sit behinds the wheels when we are enjoying these series. So bring it back and stop cancelling show get the people option 1st. Ugh NBC
Bad decision. This show has tons of potential storylines moving forward. People are tired of reality tv, we want more shows like this.
Excellent tv show….it would have picked up more viewers in the second season, if you had just given it a chance!
Highly disappointed that this show is being cancelled. NBC is notorious for canceling good shows. It definitely deserved a second season. Hoping a different network will pick it up and continue.

Very, VERY disappointed. Great T.V. I should’ve freakin’ known. Me really liking a show appears to be the kiss of death. Whatever… That’s why people are giving up on regular T.V. “Say hello to my little friend!” NETFLIX, HULU, AMAZON, etc.
I can’t believe it!!! What was NBC thinking?? Oh wait….it WASN’T!!! This is the second good show it has cancelled that I was emotionally involved with, so forget NBC . They don’t treat their viewers as nice as the other networks do and need to restructure their network.

This was a top notch show that had season 2 written all over it.
We are seeing rather too many shows cancelled early and with the rise of the number of shows per year, this trend will likely continue, which will result in fewer people watching the shows, which in turn will be counter productive for the channel business owners.
I tire of finding a grt show only to find out it is not renewed. Why watch the season only to be left in the dust again? I wait till a full season is over, binge watch and chk mid way thru whether it has been renewed. If not, i do not finish watching. And moving it to Netflix or Hulu is not an option i engage in.
So love the actress frm Dexter, was wonderful to see her back in an excellent series. Alas, no more. Network chose poorly in it’s cancellation. Bummer
