It’s become more and more difficult to launch new TV series successfully, so as a result, networks like ABC have been keeping established shows on the air for longer runs. Will The Good Doctor stay on the air for many more seasons or, is it getting close to the end? Will The Good Doctor be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A medical drama series, The Good Doctor TV show stars Freddie Highmore, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, Christina Chang, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Bria Samoné Henderson, Noah Galvin, Osvaldo Benavides, and Paige Spara. The series revolves around Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a young autistic savant who’s a surgical resident at the fictional San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives. He also challenges the skepticism of his colleagues like Dr. Marcus Andrews (Harper), Dr. Morgan Reznick (Gubelmann), Dr. Alex Park (Lee), Dr. Audrey Lim (Chang), Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma (Benavides), Dr. Jordan Allen (Henderson), Dr. Asher Wolke (Galvin), and Shaun’s mentor, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Schiff). Lea Dilallo (Spara) is Shaun’s fiancée and the head of the hospital’s IT department.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
5/17 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season four of The Good Doctor on ABC averaged a 0.57 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.15 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like The Good Doctor TV series on ABC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
*3/31/22 update: The Good Doctor has been renewed for a sixth season on ABC.
I miss the good old times with Melendez and Claire, the only regulars that should still be on the show. No wonder it lost 8 million viewers over 4 seasons. This series went downhill very fast, not to mention the way they treated Nick was disgusting.
Will no longer be watching. What a disappointment since our family has been watching since day 1. We just can’t and won’t be subjected to homosexuality.
Thanks you for season 6. Great show.
Great show! Needs to be renewed
I stopped watching long ago because I did not like Lea. She was a bad influence.
Oh, I stopped when they killed off Melendez.
They dug their on grave when Melendez was killed off.
Great show. Hope it never get cancel.
I have watched The Good Doctor since the first episode and look forward to it weekly. This is my least favorite season because I find the epicurian thing and the roll of the actress annoying. Being a health care professional for 30 years, hospitals treat patients, not clients. It is not a spa. It is really an insult to medical workers but patients also. I realize it is a drama but the entire season is based on that and less on the medical staff. If you wat my opinion, dump the epicurian thing and go back to running a hospital… Read more »
I agree, story line has slipped.
Look forward new episode every season . Never missed any episode of it, enjoy it and love it. Never missed any any episode of it.
So far this season has been crap. Might look later in the season to see if it has improved but will stop watching for now
I agree… the introduction of Salen has changed the dynamics of the show
We don’t know who is but we we stopped watching the Good Doctor because there was too much Leah and not enough medical situations.
We new the ratings would go down eventually.
I agree , they need to dump the epicurian bit an go back to the beginning. If they don”t the show is headed for disaster.
Either way. I will continue watching, but this is my least favorite season.
Love this show enjoy it and love it. Look forward to seeing it every Monday night medical drama. Never missed any episode episode of it.
The show went downhill fast when they killed off Dr Melendez. I tried watching. Held on for one episode and had no desire to continue.
So true…. I haven’t watched an episode since season 3 finale. The show has lost half of its audience.
