Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his adventures are coming to an end with year five. The Netflix historical drama series, The Last Kingdom, is coming to a close so, there won’t be a sixth season. The streaming service hasn’t announced a release date for the final installments as yet.
The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Joseph Millson, Mark Rowley, Toby Regbo, Millie Brady, James Northcote, Adrian Bouchet, Ewan Mitchell, Timothy Innes, Magnus Bruun, Jamie Blackley, Richard Dillane, Finn Elliott, Ruby Hartley, Nigel Lindsay, Dorian Lough, Stefanie Martini, Steffan Rhodri, and Eysteinn Sigurðarson. An adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s novel series, The Saxon Stories, the historical drama follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Dreymon), the son of a 9th Century Saxon nobleman. After killing his father, Danish invaders kidnap the boy and he is raised by their warlord, Ragnar. Years later, when Ragnar is killed, Uhtred vows to avenge him and reclaim his birthright. In season four, as Edward and Aethelflaed spar over the future of Mercia and their father’s dream of a united England, Uhtred tries to recover his lost birthright.
The series debuted on BBC Two in the UK in 2015 and the first season aired on BBC America in the United States. Netflix became its official home in 2018.
According to Deadline, Carnival Films, which produces Last Kingdom, confirmed that the series is coming to a close with season five. The cast and crew are currently filming the final 10 episodes in Hungary and they will be based on the ninth and 10th books in Cornwell’s 13-part series.
Dreymon will make his directorial debut by helming an episode in the final season. Andy Hay, Paul Wilmshurst, Anthony Philipson, and Jon East will also direct installments. Cast additions for season five include Patrick Robinson, Sonya Cassidy, and Harry Gilby.

I am so mad that it won’t be on after Season 5. There aren’t many shows on like this and it is sad.
One of the best shows ever! So very sad to learn Season 5 will be the last. There is still more to tell of Uhtred’s and England’s story.
It is finishing not canceling, what people want?! More?! Everything has to finish after all.
No way this can end with season 5, I don‘t see how they can just cut off the last few books! Really disappointed if that proves to be true!

Nooooooooooo, there has to be more! Over this last 12 months I have watched many series. The Last Kingdom for me was the best! Please, please don’t make 5 the last. This is incredible filming, incredible story lines, and it wouldn’t happen without the incredible cast you have! I would like to see more and I’m sure there are so many of us that would too! Please write season 6
I read the books several years ago and I’m really enjoying the series. Wishing there were going to be more than just one season. Just binge watched 4 seasons this weekend.
Why?????? This is why we canceled netflix. They cancel the best shows and keep the liberal crap! The last kingdom is soooo good.
Why cancel one of the best shows netflix has? I will cancel Netflix if they do. The Last Kingdom is one of the highest rated shows they have. Netflix needs to listen to their customers.

So thankful for a Last Kingdom, Season 5, but I’m very sad that the series will not continue. I’ve really enjoyed watching this show and will miss it greatly.
We think the show is excellent,one of the very few 5 stars we ever give a show. Great acting and filming. It is popular so I don’t know why you would end the series, we’re heartbroken. It would be nice if Netflix would release Season 4!
I’m very glad another season is on the way, but sorry it will be the last one. This has been an excellent series – fine acting and beautiful filming.
