Here’s the press release with some the details:
HULU ENTERS THE GALAXY AS SETH MACFARLANE’S EMMY-NOMINATED, HIT SCI-FI SERIES THE ORVILLE TAKES OFF AS NEW HULU ORIGINAL
Season Three of The Orville To Stream Exclusively On Hulu in 2020
(San Diego, CA) July 20, 2019 – Emmy Award-winning actor, animator, filmmaker, musical artist and comedian Seth MacFarlane announced today at San Diego Comic-Con that the Emmy-nominated fan-favorite, sci-fi series The Orville will move to Hulu exclusively for its upcoming third season. The Seth MacFarlane-created series will hit the streaming service as a Hulu Original in late 2020.
“The Orville has been a labor of love for me, and there are two companies which have supported that vision in a big way: 20th Century Fox Television, where I’ve had a deal since the start of my career, and FOX Broadcasting Company, now FOX Entertainment, which has been my broadcast home for over 20 years. My friends at the network understood what I was trying to do with this series, and they’ve done a spectacular job of marketing, launching and programming it for these past two seasons. But as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network. So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show. It’s exactly this kind of willingness to accommodate a show’s creative needs that’s made me want to stick around for so long. I am hugely indebted to Charlie Collier and FOX Entertainment for their generosity and look forward to developing future projects there. And to my new friends at Hulu, I look forward to our new partnership exploring the galaxy together,” said Seth MacFarlane.
“Fox Entertainment has been a fantastic home for The Orville and their willingness to support the show’s move to Hulu is incredibly appreciated; they really are great partners to us on so many shows and this is one more example. We’re thrilled as a studio to find this creative solution which is so meaningful to Seth and keeps the show on track to continue entertaining its millions of fans,” said Carolyn Cassidy, President of Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television.
“We know our viewers are huge fans of The Orville, along with many of Seth MacFarlane’s groundbreaking hit shows, and we can’t wait to bring Season 3 to them exclusively on the platform,” said Craig Erwich, SVP Content Development, Hulu. “Hulu is a home for the world’s most sought-after creative talent, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome Seth and the entire cast and creative team of The Orville to our Hulu Originals slate.”
The third season of The Orville will join Hulu’s lineup of premium Original genre programming including the Emmy-nominated Castle Rock from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, which won the 2019 Writers’ Guild Award, Marvel’s Runaways, Future Man from Seth Rogen, the Into the Dark franchise from Blumhouse Television and the upcoming hyper-noir drama series Reprisal starring Abigail Spencer. Seth MacFarlane’s projects including American Dad, Family Guy and The Orville are among Hulu users’ most beloved content.
The Orville is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.
The Orville is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Fuzzy Door Productions. The series was created and written by Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane, Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jason Clark and Jon Cassar serve as executive producer on the series. Jon Favreau directed the series premiere episode.

What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV show? Will you watch season three now that it’s moving from FOX to Hulu?
And now Orville (which is one of my favorite shows), has been deleted from my recordings. Sorry to see you go, but I’m not going to pay extra to watch your show. Buh bye
Well DAMN! I was really digging The Orville. As a decades long Trekkie (not into the “new” Trekker name) I could appreciate the parallel with a dose of Seth’s genius comedic insertions. I guess I’m out like the rest of you as I’ve also been “told” my fandom doesn’t matter unless I pay for HULU, Best of luck in the exclusive realm!
I am soooo disappointed that one of my fave. shows is leaving Fox and going to HULU…..
I don’t understand why….I hope fox changes its mind…
I wont buy hulu….
The Orville made Thursday nights and watching Fox TV worthwhile. It makes me sad that such a great show will be available only to the paying privileged and not the general public.
I dropped Hulu primarily because it wanted me to let it know where I was when I was using the app on my phone. It reminded me of the song “Every Breath You Take” — creepy!
I don’t have HULU! I LOVE THIS SHOW FOR SO MANY REASONS BUT WON’T BE ABLE TO FOLLOW IT ON HULU!
As a UK viewer, I won’t be able to watch the best sc fi for many years. I was so looking forward to rejoining the madcap crew. Waiting till 2020 is bad enough, it will probably 2025 before a station over here gets it ( I hope I’m still around)
No I refuse to pay for hulu or any other pay channel. I loved the orville but I will not pay to see it. I hope Mcfarlen comes to his senses and moves back to fox.
Well it just went to ****.
Yes waiting for Orville 3. Love that show, so does my whole family in two states.
This WAS my favorite show! I am on a fixed income…I guess us “working poor” people are left out in the cold yet again!!
NOOOOOOOOO
OH NOOOOOO
I dont have cable TV or Hulu, Netflix or any of those.
I’m retired, and on a fixed income
I only have OTA antenna.
One of my favorite shows will no longer be available to me.
I loved all the Star Trek series on TV, so I was thrilled when The Orville was on a station I received.
I loved the Star Wars movies…..and even the Avengers movies….but must wait until I can get them at the library, a 50 mile round trip for me.
I’m devastated that the Orville is moving from Fox.
As long as it comes back then it can be on mars for all I care.
A truly top notch show that all terrestrial stations across the world should pick up the first season of and raise awareness.
I won’t be watching the Orville on Hulu. I’m not going to pay for another streaming service.
It WAS something I looked foreword to each week/episode BUT alas moving to streaming has driven a stake through it’s heart
I am soooo unhappy that the Orville is moving….to Hulu…Now My family and I wont be able to watch
