HULU ENTERS THE GALAXY AS SETH MACFARLANE’S EMMY-NOMINATED, HIT SCI-FI SERIES THE ORVILLE TAKES OFF AS NEW HULU ORIGINAL
Season Three of The Orville To Stream Exclusively On Hulu in 2020
(San Diego, CA) July 20, 2019 – Emmy Award-winning actor, animator, filmmaker, musical artist and comedian Seth MacFarlane announced today at San Diego Comic-Con that the Emmy-nominated fan-favorite, sci-fi series The Orville will move to Hulu exclusively for its upcoming third season. The Seth MacFarlane-created series will hit the streaming service as a Hulu Original in late 2020.
“The Orville has been a labor of love for me, and there are two companies which have supported that vision in a big way: 20th Century Fox Television, where I’ve had a deal since the start of my career, and FOX Broadcasting Company, now FOX Entertainment, which has been my broadcast home for over 20 years. My friends at the network understood what I was trying to do with this series, and they’ve done a spectacular job of marketing, launching and programming it for these past two seasons. But as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network. So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show. It’s exactly this kind of willingness to accommodate a show’s creative needs that’s made me want to stick around for so long. I am hugely indebted to Charlie Collier and FOX Entertainment for their generosity and look forward to developing future projects there. And to my new friends at Hulu, I look forward to our new partnership exploring the galaxy together,” said Seth MacFarlane.
“Fox Entertainment has been a fantastic home for The Orville and their willingness to support the show’s move to Hulu is incredibly appreciated; they really are great partners to us on so many shows and this is one more example. We’re thrilled as a studio to find this creative solution which is so meaningful to Seth and keeps the show on track to continue entertaining its millions of fans,” said Carolyn Cassidy, President of Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television.
“We know our viewers are huge fans of The Orville, along with many of Seth MacFarlane’s groundbreaking hit shows, and we can’t wait to bring Season 3 to them exclusively on the platform,” said Craig Erwich, SVP Content Development, Hulu. “Hulu is a home for the world’s most sought-after creative talent, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome Seth and the entire cast and creative team of The Orville to our Hulu Originals slate.”
The third season of The Orville will join Hulu’s lineup of premium Original genre programming including the Emmy-nominated Castle Rock from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, which won the 2019 Writers’ Guild Award, Marvel’s Runaways, Future Man from Seth Rogen, the Into the Dark franchise from Blumhouse Television and the upcoming hyper-noir drama series Reprisal starring Abigail Spencer. Seth MacFarlane’s projects including American Dad, Family Guy and The Orville are among Hulu users’ most beloved content.
The Orville is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.
The Orville is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Fuzzy Door Productions. The series was created and written by Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane, Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jason Clark and Jon Cassar serve as executive producer on the series. Jon Favreau directed the series premiere episode.

What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV show? Will you watch season three now that it’s moving from FOX to Hulu?
Love the show, looks like l will have to Subscribe to Hulu
I already had Hulu so maybe I’m biased but did Anyone read what they wrote about the cost of the show and the problems with putting it on the network they didn’t do this to punish people they did it so that the show could be saved… that’s good enough for me
Hulu, what the h*ll.. I now have no chance of watching it, bring it back to FOX Please
Fox You Really Screwed The Pooch This Time
Well that blows!!!! I already pay $200 a month for cable and internet and now I have to buy a subscription for Hulu to see season 3? Welp I guess I will now refer to The Orville as my used to be favorite show because I’m not spending another dime. Thanks for hanging the carrot Seth!! Just enough shows on Fox to get the viewer hooked and then move to a pay platform so you can make more money. Just wrong on every level. Oh well – I guess I’ll be watching reruns of the first 2 seasons that I… Read more »
I have Hulu and have seen seasons I and II on my phone. I am hooked, and am thrilled to see Orville and its superb cast will be returning. This has made my day. I am also so excited to see former Trek cast members incorporated in your series. As a true Treky dating back to Captain Kirk, it beings great joy to know the legacies throughout the years will continue to be honored and acknowledged! Live Long And Prosper! Rest in peace Leonard Nimoy, and all the great Trek legions!
Loved the show but don’t have Hulu and will not be able to watch
Sad that Orville went to Hulu. Do not want to pay more money. Can some channel bring back ‘People of Earth’? A funny show that went away too soon!
I will happily continue to watch this show on Hulu! I don’t pay for cable (ridiculous pricing for low quality shows). I have an HD antenna for the main channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC). Hulu is cheap. I found this show on Hulu in the first place. All of you whiney Carole Baskins who refuse to watch it because it moved to Hulu are Carole Baskins.
I refuse to watch now that I have to pay extra on a streaming service. Sad because I liked the show.
No I refuse to pay for a streaming service to continue watching a show I previously liked. It it wrong to hook viewers on a show and then switch it to a streaming service to make more money.
Yes, I will watch another season. I am kind of addicted to it now and won’t stop until the writers run out of good material.
They are sure trying really hard to get this show canceled. Out to a pay service and a year late? I guess I will wait for the dvd and get it from the library.
I won’t be continuing to watch it. Big mistake moving it to Hulu. It will die the death most shows going over to pay for networks do. This was a really stupid decision to make it exclusively for Hulu. You know who will watch it? Only Hulu fools who pay for the stuff that most providers do for free. Hulu original shows die pretty quickly. First they get rid of Halston Sage and now this bonehead move. And to top it off another bonehead move of waiting well over a year to do season 3. Good luck Orville. You’ll need… Read more »
I’m totally going to miss the show, really loved it,cable cost enough, I refuse to pay for Hulu
