In its first season, The Orville TV ranked as a top-five FOX TV series. Was that just beginner’s luck or, can it soar to new Nielsen ratings heights in the second season? Will The Orville be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A FOX science-fiction dramedy, The Orville stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, and Mark Jackson. The action-adventure series centers on Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), of The U.S.S. Orville, and First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki) — his ex-wife. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*5/11/19 update: FOX has renewed The Orville TV show for a third season.
This show is awesome science fiction! It makes the future and space travel relatable to us today. It deals with realistic issues. It can be very thought provoking. We are on pins and needles waiting for the next episode. My husband and I are really liking forward to a season 3. This is our favorite TV show!
I really like this show. I thought the 2nd season was better than the 1st. Disappointed to see the ratings were so low. It has good stories, action, and Seth’s humor throughout is awesome.
I’m very much looking forward to more seasons.
After the cancellation of Firefly WAY back, I cancelled my cable for good. Never had it again. I DO buy boxsets of FINISHED TV shows. If they don’t get wrapped up, I don’t buy them. Knowing how bad Fox is at trashing shows I actually bought Season 1 and will buy Season 2 of the Orville when it’s released. I also bought 2 tshirts and 1 mug from the fox store. I wanted to support this show so much. I’m kinda shocked at the low ratings. I wonder if it’s because people like me have cut the cord and they… Read more »
Love this show! Why are the ratings so low?
Does not rate low here in Australia.Has a large and growing cult sort of following even hear people on public transport discussing it .The ones not head buried in mobile phones that is but overheard even a couple of them saying positive and or funny things
I really hope the Orville gets a third season. But, since it is FOX, and having seen travesties like Firefly getting canceled and even episodes run in the wrong order, it wouldn’t surprise me. The only problem the Orville has is FOX. The Orville is a great show, the only other thing I watch from a network is Discovery and the news. It would be a shame to see The Orville fade away, but FOX is famous for poor decisions.
The Oriville is the most excellent sci fi show I’ve seen since Star Trek Next Generation, which was my favorite Star Trek along with Voyager. This show should definitely have a Season Three. The scripts are excellent and I love the actors. It’s imaginative, serious and deep but light hearted all in one. We get to take a look at our humanity in a deep way. It makes you laugh and it makes you contemplate. A GREAT show. Please keep it going – there’s nothing else worthwhile being aired…..
I have been a SciFi fan since before Forbidden Planet. This makes the grade.
The Orville should be renewed! It is a great show with good writing. I am a Star Trek fan and this show takes space travel to a whole new level. Tongue and cheek humor but great concepts. KEEP IT GOING!
I LOVE the Orville. It is one of the very few shows I actually look forward to watching during its season run. Most of the series written these days are absolutely junk – don’t know how 90% of them get renewed. Seth has an amazing talent in writing, acting and producing this show. The stories are unique and each has an under lying “teaching moment” that each and every one of us can relate to today. And yet, the show is such unadulterated refreshing entertainment. Just look at the Orville Facebook page to see how many fans love this show.… Read more »
A really good show that raises interesting issues and deals with them very thoughtfully.
The ratings are not impressive at all. I hope the advertisers see this and stop advertising.
The Orville is *brilliant*! Basically, what I see is a collection of 21st-Century Jane and Joe Sixpacks (including the aliens) who wrestle with themselves, each other, their escapist tendencies and all-too-frequent threats of impending galactic doom.
The best science fiction shows us ourselves, with our best and worst traits writ large. This “silly” show definitely qualifies. Keep on voyaging, Orville!
As much as I love the show, and want to see it renewed. The networks pay more attention to people contacting the networks directly to voice their concern or desires, and less to a less than 3 dozen comments on a random TV ratings site. Besides you have to know that they are looking primarily a show starting at 5+ million viewers dropping to a few million viewers over watching our comments. Now if you had 3 million viewers of the show asking directly for a renewal, then the show might have hope. I personally don’t see a third season,… Read more »
Terrible terrible show the orificeville with not funny humour kinda like watch your 4 year old tell not funny jokes
That isn’t what the show is about. It’s not supposed to be a laugh fest or a parody of a science fiction show. It is a straight up science fiction show that touches on real life situations, such as gender identity.
Love this show. My biggest concern is that it requires a level of “thinking” that unfortunately seems to be a challenge for the majority watching network television, i.e. Scorpion (canceled thank God) Seth is brilliant and the show is only getting better. I think if his fellow (friends) in the indusdty would begin doing cameos, Charlize Theron for example, the ratings would climb. It’s time he brought out the big guns and, if the opportunity presents itself with season 3, take no prisoners. If you don’t understand the satire, topics quietly covered or the simplest of jokes referenced within the… Read more »
