After months of speculation, FX has finally put rumors of The Riches’ cancellation to rest. The show is over.
The Riches debuted on March 12, 2007 on FX. The TV series follows a pair of Irish con artists and their children who assume the identities of a wealthy family who has died in a car crash. The show stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver in the roles of Wayne and Dahlia Malloy.
The series debuted to 3.8 million viewers and 1.9 rating/5 share in the desirable demographic. The numbers fell during the 13 episode season but FX still renewed it for a second year. The numbers fell significantly in season two and The Riches lost almost 50% of its 18-49 viewers.
For those that did watch, they only got to see a shortened season because of the writers strike. Only seven of the 13 planned episodes were produced and ended with storylines unresolved. It was hoped that the remaining six would be added to the order for season three but that won’t happen now.

Though the season two ratings didn’t warrant a renewal, FX was hesitant to cancel the series. Riches was a hit with critics and Driver received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Ultimately, as is usually the case, it came down to economics and resources. Things weren’t likely helped by the fact that neither Izzard or Driver were available to return to production any time soon. Izzard is booked for two movies and has a busy stand up schedule that keeps him touring. Driver recently gave birth to her first child.
After months of waiting, actor Todd Stashwick (Dahlia’s cousin Dale on the series) broke the cancellation news to fans on Thursday. The network made the official announcement a few days later.
In a perfect world, a final episode or movie would be filmed to wrap up the series’ cliffhanger. Based on the show’s ratings, that seems unlikely to happen. Stay tuned!
I cannot believe they left it this way. Like what happens next? Netflix—-finish it for me please!!!
I loved the show and couldn’t understand the way it ended. Put it back!
Now in 2016 this show would flourish!!! It would be a hit of the year. Everyone is waiting for something good after Breaking Bad. Americans love rags to riches stories. It has to be finished. Show us your work. This almost cannot be counted. I feel as if I was reading an “A” paper and half way through it just ended. Finish it and recover your glory. He only other option would be to just continue on if the writers want to make it worth anything. It has such potential! It’s sad no one took this over and finished it.
It’s a new time now they should pick it back up, or someone should. This show would be a bit today
I would give anything to see them pick it up even with the space in time left to audiences imagination as long as they get the same brilliant writers!
I wasn’t impressed in the beginning, but became hooked after a few episodes. I didn’t know it was going to be ending without resolution. Very disappointed. Minnie Driver was fantastic. Let’s finish it!
What a wonderful great perfect idea for Netflix to pick it up and continue the Riches.
Do it Netflix, and I will subscribe forever!!!!!
I just found this show the Riches and I am crazy about it!! I like it better than Breaking Bad or Mad Men. Eddie Izzard is so fabulous. so is Minnie Driver and the rest of the cast and the writing is wonderful. please please please somebody bring it back in some form or another. I watch it on Netflix only a little bit at a time because I don’t want it to be over. please somebody make it not be over …

When I saw the final episode I didn’t know that it wasn’t intended to be the final episode. Given the circumstances, where it ended is not so bad. It was on an upbeat note and I could imagine all kinds of happy outcomes for the storyline. But I’m also one who doesn’t like goodbyes.
wish I had read the reviews and saw it would be left with cliffhangers like this. There is such **** on TV that stations continue to renew like reality shows and talent-less idiots making careers while talented actors get walked on like this. Then again if the public cannot support good TV but give ratings and locality to crap then its all that we are left with.
It’s hard to believe that the show got such low ratings. I think it’s great. I’m still on the first season but I’m hooked. Sucks that the second season is going to leave cliff hangers.
I would love to see more of the Riches.
I love this series; it would be great to see many more series.
Net flicks please consider picking up this series. I think you would do wonders. Netflix has done amazing job on Orage is the new black, am Wentworth. I can just imagine the great spin the can do with this show.
Wentworth is amazing!
I loved this show!! Maybe , Netflix can pick it up and create a new season for all the stories that were left just hanging. Have to know what happens to the 13 million $ deal. Does Dahlia ever get off the drugs? The Kids, Nina, Dale …the list goes on and on. Great acting. I have nothing to watch now. Any suggestions? because the shows on today stink!!
Wentworth!! It’s on Netflix and it’s amazing. I’ve watched it twice now.
LOVE Wentworth….better than Orange is the New Black!
I cannot believe they cancelled this show in the middle of Season 2. It was a good story and was a bit much at times with so much going on, especially in Season 2, but then got back on track, for me, anyway, and now no resolution. I just finished watching Season 2, Episode 3 and am stuck wondering how it would have ended and disappointed they cannot show the rest of the Episodes as planned. What a bummer.
Just finished the second season….netflix should just pull the second season. Having it on is like a practical joke.
I agree we dont have any good shows on Tv anymore, Wings ended when i was a teen then friends. This had a great story line, actors and was great to watch! Bring it back one way or another and i am sure the viewer ratings would be threw the roof!!
