Though the network was up year-to-year and when compared to Body of Proof, it was a very poor start for The River. A significant number of viewers tuned out as the two-hour premiere progressed, a good sign that they won’t be back next week.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The River TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

This show rock’s! You got to give a show a chance to see if it’s worth watching. Unless it’s total crap which this show is not. It’s totally different than anything else that’s on. Good luck to the people who are involved in taking a risk to do something different.
I enjoyed the show but it is a little hard to understand. What are these weird things that come out of nowhere.

I liked the River. I’ve known the producer for 32 years. 🙂
Episode 2 was much better than the pilot and I was really hooked and on the edge of my seat throughout the whole episode. If you weren’t in love with the 1st episode, give it a second chance. I think this could be a really good show.
I LOVE IT!! i love the storyline, the theme, the actors, EVERYTHING!! finally something suspenseful and not anther that a cop or comedy show ( No offense meant i love “Last Man Standing”) i will be watching every episode of The River!! and please don’t be like my sister who hated before she watched, i had her sit down and actually WATCH it and she loved it!
I forgot to watch the second episode! Who’s bright idea was it to put original programming on Valentine’s Day? Meh. Though with those ratings being what they are, I’m guessing the show won’t survive anyway… oh well, will still try to catch it online sometime.
Paranormal Activities on TV?
They worked in a dark movie theath, but not on TV. You could connect because they where everday people.
Sorry, but just can not connect with any of the characters, you could blow up the ship and I wouldn’t care. Unless you care what happens to the character nothing the writer does to them means nothing to me.
With ratings this low in the first two weeks, I have no reason to start watching, because the show will be cancelled in the first season.
Amazing they diss this show and love American Idol, another phenomenon that speaks volumes about intelligence or the lack thereof in the good ole USA.
I missed it, but im downloading the first 2 episodes right now…I hope there as good as the previews made it look.
And if it is…i hope it keeps playing! I love horror…and a new horror script every week sounds great!
The “Paranormal Activities” series is a slow burner — it works by developing story and building tension until all hell breaks loose. “The River” is like a gimmicky Halloween fright house sponsored by a high school drama club — only with a much bigger budget. It’s just one senseless “boo-scare” after another.
If they’re going to save this show from getting yanked by episode 5, they’re going to have to rethink their storytelling. I don’t hate the idea. But, as it is, the the scariest thing about this show is that it got greenlit in the first place. —wt
A waste of time. Juvenile and derivative plot. Characters behaving stupidly. Theories being proposed for the supernatural goings on that seem to come out of thin air because the central character “has a feeling” and are instantly accepted and turn out to be correct. “Found footage” that contains shots and angles that could only be produced by a spirit cameraman…ABC should cancel immediately and show reruns of Twilight Zone or Night Gallery. Then pay attention, they’ll show you how it’s done.
I could not have said it better. Really poor and jumpy
Wife and I only made it about 35 minutes into the first show before deleting it from the DVR.
The whole crappy/bumpy camera work (I’m guessing they are going for Blair witch here) plus the fact they it seemed to me that they were trying way to hard to be like other B rated movies….
We figured it was safer to bail now then to later. Save your time for better programing.
Cinema veritie could be toned down by 3dB
Kept me on the edge of my seat loved it
I wish I could have watched The River, but I can’t choose a new series over my favorites: White Collar, Justitifed, Southland, Ringer, Parenthood and Unforgettable. I only have two DVRs.
