To no surprise whatsoever, NBC has cancelled their Monday night medical TV show, Trauma — for real this time.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The NBC series got off to a poor start last fall with just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.68 million viewers. The ratings fell from there and the show was essentially cancelled when the network decided not to order additional episodes beyond the initial baker’s dozen.
Then, in large part because the show was still in production and NBC needed additional original programming, the network ordered an additional seven episodes. Viewership continued to fall and NBC cut back their additional order to five installments. The last one aired on April 26th.
Though NBC has a lot of slots to fill on the 2010-11 schedule, Trauma’s ratings were just too low to pay for a second season. It’s been cancelled after 18 episodes.
Though devoted fans may mourn the series’ demise, a consolation might be that they got five more episodes than the ratings realistically warranted.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Trauma won’t be back next season? Any thoughts on how you would have wrapped up the series?

this show is great!!! dont cancel it. It is very realistic.
Definitely a mistake to cancel such a great show. Believe it or not there are still some people out there that are not obsessed with reality tv and are just looking for a really good show they can relax with. This was that show for me, and I am incredibly sad to see it go. I know there won’t be another this good for a while….
WHAT IS WRONG WITH NBC???? I hate them now and will never watch another nbc show again, not even Mercy, which I love. Actually, after what they did to Conan O’Brien, I’m not surprised that they would do, yet another stupid move!
great show, would really love to see it back on the screens.
NBC, you really suck. First you cancel LIFE and now TRAUMA. No wonder your ratings are down. You guys cancel good shows and leave the crappy ones.
Another good show killed by NBC!… NBC is full of dopes that have no clue! Hey NBC, get a real ratings system that actually shows the real popularity of a show! Let us all have a say!
I am going to stop watching network shows because so many good series are canceled. I will stick with cable shows.
Trauma was one of two NBC shows that I watch consistantly and now they’ve effectively halved my viewership. Apparently intelligent shows don’t do as well as stupid ones these days and the fact that they don’t count DVR watchers in their percentages (though we are the wave of the future) means that they probably don’t really care for everyone’s opinion. It’s so frustrating to have show after show cancelled without ever giving them a chance to create a real following. Trauma was real and I laughed and cried with it. It was the one new show that I looked forward… Read more »
[…] a brief stay of execution, NBC has pulled the plug and pronounced EMS drama Trauma deceased. This isn’t the first time NBC has made such a move. In fact the outlook has been grim since […]
NBC, What is the point of even watching shows on your network? It takes a large time and energy commitment from the viewer to watch a show each week and really get into the characters and plot lines. It was bad enough when you used to pull shows after their first season before letting them build up a following, but now by pulling shows mid-season you are blatantly slapping the faces of the viewers. Why should we waste our time with your network if you won’t even finish up a season or wrap up shows with a finale? It’s insulting.… Read more »
Trauma was one of the best shows out there right now. They keep taking shows of the air and bring them back weeks/months later people loose track when the show is on etc.. This was one of the shows I never missed! Then the networks wonder why the shows don’t do well. People don’t want to bother watching anything because they know it can be canceled at any time…
This is why NBC continues to suck….Trauma was bounced around so much no one ever knew when the hell it was on. NBC ruined one the best shows on TV. Who makes these decisions for marketing???? Ratings stink because the channel stinks!
NBC has lost it!!!! Taking off Trauma and Mercy!!! Your network has been in the pooper for many years and those of us that actually watch NBC and love these shows and love them you are taking them away. Why not one more season of both and see what happens??? Is it because these great shows cost more to make than some stupid game show or reality show????
I can’t believe it! This was my FAVORITE show this year! NBC, please say it isn’t so and this is a bad joke!
