What do you think? Do you like the When Calls the Heart TV series on Hallmark Channel? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a ninth season?
*5/10/2021 update: When Calls the Heart has been renewed for a ninth season on Hallmark Channel.
They made Elizabeth a mean-girl. She’s angry, irritable, selfish, and narcissistic. The whole show revolves around her feelings and desires and her being in a love-triangle that’s dragged two guys hearts along for the ride. She makes other characters on the show upset because of her brattiness. It’s taken the pure joy out of the show. I hate the direction. Choose whoever, Elizabeth, because at this point I just don’t care. I want her to lose her unlikability and go back to being the Elizabeth we fell in love with.
I was very disappointed when Elizabeth picked Lucas. Maybe Elizabeth will realize this in the next season. It’s still one of my favorite shows. Cross my fingers and see what happens.
I can’t wait to hear about the Elizabeth & Lucas wedding especially how they manage to have Elizabeth catch her own bouquet. I hope the officiant has no personal issues or Elizabeth will have to stickler nose in his business like she does everyone else. Needless to say the show has gone way down hill since season 5. I have a hard time watching an entire episode since season 6. My mind is not shallow enough to find them entertaining ..
Season 8 ruined WCTH for me. It was more than just the shock valued choice. Even Lucas fans were saying prior to the finale that Nathan would be chosen. Season 8 was the worst written season in the history of the show. None of the characters were the same, most of the women were bossy, pouty or just unrecognizable. Elizabeth was the worst. Instead of being the strong, fearless heroine we loved, she became fearful, indecisive, cruel and a hormonal idiot. The bridge scene in the finale was, well, not the WCTH I had fallen in love with. That’s the… Read more »
Absolutely agree! The wonderful heartwarming Teacher from the big city comes to a small town to live her own life and falls in love with the local Mountie was the story I fell in love with. It’s all gone now. Why base a show on a book about a Teach and a Mountie if they never actually allow that relationship to exist? I wonder if the shows on GAC Family channel will be the heartwarming kind because I’m done with HAllmark forever.
Can’t wait for season 9. Season8 was one of the best seasons yet. Lucas is so thoughtful and patient and kind. He and Elizabeth are perfect they have so much in common. Nathan will get a new love interest. Can’t wait to see all the new stories
Since they took Jack out of the story, this movie no longer made sense, it would have been better to leave it until the moment Jack died.
I have loved watching WCTH since the beginning and was looking forward to the new episodes; excited that Elizabeth would finally choose an honorable, wholesome man and romancing would began for them. Also, hopes for Rosemary would/could potentially become a mom. Also that Bill would be a Lil more concerned about Elizabeth’s two men-friends desiring to win his dear friends heart. He’s always showed care & concern for her especially being a widow. Especially since Lucas came out if nowhere with shady characteristics , wanting to take over his Lil town. I was so excited to think that this season… Read more »
Totally disagree. Lucas is the one.
I am a Hearty right from the Beginning. I love the show and I was devastated when Jack died. I cried so hard for Elizabeth and not seeing Jack anymore. Knowing that the story must go on I enjoyed all the following seasons……until this one. This Season 8 ending…. I was very disappointed. Elizabeth came from a wealthy family lifestyle and then she had to learn to be deal with more like low income living and being a Coal Valley and then Hope Valley resident. She did all this with Jack and was very happy. No more Miss Rich Girl.… Read more »
Best on screen chemistry I’ve ever seen. Brian Bird is fantastic.
This show was great for 5.7 seasons. When they killed Jack, those of us who knew the show was based on a book felt that as far as the show’s life would go, he was a safe character as he was a major character, so it was a HUGE shock when they actually killed him. Yes, he was gone a lot, but that was his job, and I was ok with that. I actually love Elizabeth’s letters and journal writing, noting she missed Jack. Then they killed Jack, and the show has never been the same. Now the show has… Read more »
Keep watching. Lucas is a businessman who is upstanding. The saloon is a business venture.
Ya, just like a mob boss would say. Hey, I’m a businessman making a living with saloons, alcohol, and prostitutes! Horrible, simply horrible for Jack’s son to be raised by a man with such low morals, sex, drinking, and giving gifts to win Elizabeth and get her in his bed. Heck, he already knows he would abandon her son to got off to a hotel with him. Elizabeth has turned into a floozy and a horrible mother to Jack’s and her son! Ignore Jack’s son or send him off to relatives, that boy deserves a better role model!
I thought this was a great show (seasons 1-5) tolerable season 6, going downhill season 7 and season 8 was so bad I am done. I am even thinking of dumping Hallmark channel as the whole thing is going downhill. It used to be a show of substance when it at least attempted to follow the books, now it is a dime a dozen soap opera. Hallmark channel my urge to dump you entirely is rising, I think I can find better programming elsewhere.
Season 8 was a total letdown! Elizabeth and Lucas so obviously don’t belong together. Really like the other characters but so disappointed in this season finale. I can’t even go back and watch previous seasons because I know the terrible ending.
For me it wasn’t which man she ended up with, it was what they did do her character, which used to have integrity and turned into a snooty brooding brat. Also a 1916 school teacher in the wilds would not marry a gambling, drinking and otherwise shady-seeming man, and she would have been called a widow, not a single mother. They are trying to bring the show out of the time period and out of the books which ruined it Also the new writers seem to get material from Facebook memes. So Elizabeth who supposedly had integrity can now be… Read more »
Very disappointed with season 8. Horrible writing and no continuity. Wonder if Ms Oak has any say to have the teacher courting a saloon owner? #byebyewcthweknowandloved #byebyehopevalley
Writers did a terrible job in Season 8. Very disappointed. Will not be watching Season 9. Send Elizabeth back to Hamilton.
They changed the integrity of the show. Made a single school teacher with a son a sleazy desperate woman, who fell in love with a manipulative, backstabbing, gambler saloon owner. Not fit for family TV. Change the direction or cancel it.
Best summary of the season I’ve seen so far. How did they get this so wrong?
I know the broadcast company has new owners and the show has new producers. Apparently they didn’t get the memo that this is not a **** drama.
Manipulative and backstabbing. What show did you watch? Lucas is none of those things. Who did he stab in the back? Who did he manipulate?
I will NOT watch season 9. They ruined a beautiful love story and show by having Elizabeth become a weak, pathetic woman who ran from her true feelings for three seasons. The excuse she gave in the jail was pitiful and totally unbelievable. It was a slap in the face that she walked in smiling. What was the point of this season other than to drag Nathan fans along for ratings and to dishonor everything Hope Valley stood for? It’s no longer Hope Valley. It’s become Heartbreak Valley.
