Though it’s pulled in less-than-impressive ratings, CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man.
Airing on Friday nights, A Gifted Man revolves around a talented and self-absorbed upscale surgeon (Patrick Wilson) who begins to change his view on life when he’s visited by the ghost of his dead ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle). Others in the series include Julie Benz, Liam Aiken, Margo Martindale, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, and Eriq La Salle.
The newbie series has been averaging a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.35 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated show on the network and has been doing worse in the all-important demo than now-cancelled Medium did a year earlier. On the positive side however, Gifted Man typically pulls in twice as many viewers as the show’s competitors on any of the other networks.
CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man, bringing the season total to 16 installments. That’s a far cry from a full season order and, unless things improve, it’s difficult to imagine that the network will order a second season.
Three of the network’s other new shows — 2 Broke Girls, Person of Interest and Unforgettable — received full season pickups while How To Be A Gentleman was quickly cancelled. CBS hasn’t announced their mid-season schedule yet so it’s unknown what the network will put in A Gifted Man’s timeslot when the series has completed its run.
What do you think? Should CBS order more episodes of A Gifted Man or cancel it when the current season is finished?

I started watching a gifted man just out of curiosity. I wanted to see if it was good or not. After about half way through the pilot I didn’t want to stop watching. It brought tears to my eyes. The story lines are fantastic. It would be sad if they cancelled this show. The shows on TV nowadays have no real life ordinary people meaning. Or they are only about people acting in reality??? for the cameras. It’s about time they made a show with true feelings that most people have everyday and the decisions they have to make. Maybe… Read more »
Please don’t cancel! Patrick Wilson is a huge talent and this show hits so many emotions! The last episode where he’s on the rooftop playing the song “Babylon” was such a tearjerker, it took my breath away! This show is awesome! We love it!
I think this show is spectacular and Patrick Wilson is an amazing actor and so believable in this role, perfect casting! You were so lucky o get him for this show. It would truly be a shame if you cancelled the series. Give it a chance. I believe it will take off and become a huge hit. I’m spreading the word as we speak!
Why order more shows. I don’t understand. I couldn’t sit through one show, it was too sappy. I even gave it a second chance and thought it got worse. The ghosty wife was a big problem and I couldn’t care less about the doc.
Its such a fantastic show, i really hope they dont cancel it
Please don’t pull A Gifted Man. It’s one of the few last shows on tv that is a good clean show….i now stay home on Friday nights to watch it.
CBS needs to keep A Gifted Man! A great family show that disproves happy endings, is not afraid to show harsh realities whilst celebrating social conscience and action. This show is NOT another reality voyeuristic program, NOT filled with teen angst, NOT featuring emotional vampires or any supernatural creatures for that matter and finally NOT bent on publicly displaying the life and times of every “wannabe celebrity/socialite”. A Gifted Man has beaten it’s competitors without fail every Friday night and we all know just how difficult it is to rack up Friday night ratings. CBS needs to recognise the show… Read more »
I am so happy to hear they have order 3 more episodes of the show. Now to just get them to understand that Friday nights NEED this show to stay on the air. This has got to be one of the best shows of the new season, and the network should grasp that without this show, the network will lose nearly its entire viewership for the evening. Good call on giving us more of what we actually want to watch, and not giving in to the temptation to shove more reality programing down our throats.
I like it.
Pls…don’t cancel Gifted Man. I absolutely luv this program & so does my family. One of the best shows this fall!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to see more episides
I absolutely love this show. Please give it a chance. It is refreshing even if you know it is fantasy. It is always good to see gifted people grow to better people in any world.
CBS- don’t take away another one of my favorite shows.
I love “A Gifted Man”. Characters are great, well-written.
Hi, I happen to think this is one of the best new series on tv this year and it would be a tragedy to have it cancelled when there are so many tv shows that suck. Don’t cancel this show.
