What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the TNT cable channel, The Alienist stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom, and Q’orianka Kilcher. Set in 1896 in New York City, the mystery drama centers on Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), an alienist, i.e. a criminal psychologist. When a ritualistic serial killer starts targeting boy prostitutes, Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt (Geraghty) drafts Kreizler to head up his secret investigation into the murders.
Season One Ratings

The Alienist ended after one season but TNT later ordered a sequel series called The Angel of Darkness. The channel has since decided that Angel of Darkness is now the second season of The Alienist and it debuts July 19, 2020. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Although it premiered with very good numbers for a cable drama, the ratings have been dropping pretty quickly. Will TNT cancel or renew The Alienist for season two? 6/13/18 update: Cast members have confirmed that the series ended with one season, though they’d be open for a second season. Details here.

5/21/20 update: TNT has changed the title of the sequel series to The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness and is treating it like a second season.

WOW…why are all the interesting shows cancelled??? We have no new interests just repeats like bringing old shows back like Frazier or Rosanne ( We all know how that ended) Let them die and bring back the viewers to good old tv. Wake up America!!!
I am sick that the TV show The Alienist was canceled! It was very interesting, suspenseful, and refreshing. I include refreshing because it’s not like every other detective show out there. This puts a very interesting twist on solving crime. It’s also interesting to me because it looks as if our modern FBI agents were not the first ones profiling. Also, some of my favorite actors/actresses are in the show, with amazing performances. I’ve been so tired of the same old things. This was new & different.
Another show I can stop watching on Netflix. Hope Netflix can pick this one up to and make a season 2 with an ending. To the people who decide to cancel shows: ***
Please renew this series. I ‘be read all the Alienist books by Caleb Carr. He is an awesome writer and I have enjoyed them all.
I wish TNT would stop canceling good programs the librarian and the alienist are excellent programs they each have and Main storyline that intertwines throughout the seasons and that is what a lot of people like not everybody can get Netflix if these programs go to Netflix TV does not seem to be the way it used to be everyone’s in competition for ratings let’s forget about the ratings and think about what the public wants
My wife and I found this show on netflix. If we had known it was on another channel we would certainly have added it to our most watch list. Please bring it back.
