Phil Keoghan, get your passport ready! CBS has announced that The Amazing Race has been renewed for the 2016-17 season. It’s unknown if the network has renewed the venerable competition series for one or two cycles at this point but we do know there will at least be a 29th competition.
Hosted by Keoghan, the 28th cycle of The Amazing Race is currently airing on Friday nights. This season features 11 pairs of contestants racing around the world in pursuit of a million dollar prize. Each team features at least one Internet celebrity.
The current season’s ratings are on par with last spring’s edition, averaging a 1.11 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.77 million viewers. That’s also about the same as last Fall’s edition.
Today, the network announced 2016-17 season renewals of 10 other shows as well — 2 Broke Girls, Blue Bloods, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, Mom, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, Scorpion, and Survivor.
What do you think? Are you still a fan of The Amazing Race? Would you like to see a new twist added to the competition next season?
I have been watching it since season 1 and would like to see more.
I loved this show since season 1, and I always can’t wait to see what they have next, so I ‘am so looking forward for the next season, and that’s goes for the survivor also, is one of my show that I’am looking forward to also
CBS unveiled their Fall 2016 schedule a few weeks ago, and the U.S. version of “The Amazing Race” wasn’t on it. Its Fridays-at-8pm timeslot has been taken over by the new “MacGyver” reboot series. This is an indication that “The Amazing Race” may start doing one cycle per year rather than two in future seasons. I think this is because of decreasing viewership for the series over its past few seasons, especially after it was moved from Sundays to Fridays. I think CBS will probably air “The Amazing Race” during the winter (January-March) in a timeslot that is to be… Read more »
Wish they would have international teams. Why always American teams. They visit all these countries why not have an Asian team, an aussies team, some European teams, African teams. Mixed it up a bit. Let them compete with American teams.
There have been international teams before and the first one that come tomind are the twins from Shrilanka
Big fan of Amazing Race although Amazing Race Canada is much better. Glad to see it is renewed. My only gripe for this last season was the finale. The winner was pretty well decided in he first 10 minutes of the show. If the team missed the first attempt to grab the clue, then it was nearly an hour to get an opportunity for a second try. This made the grand finale as little less grand.
Love the Amazing Race, nothing else like it on television, hope it goes forever so many more places to go.
This is one of the best shows on TV! Not only exciting, but we get to see parts of the world that we would not normally see.
There are so many places that the race has still not reached, Greenland for one, congo another, Israel has its own show but has not been there, would love to see the penguins in Adelaide get some assistance from the race. Would love to see the show have a service project that directly benefits the communities. instead of a 12 hour stop at the end of a leg have a 48 hour stop with a full day of service to the communities where the leg ends, then after the season ends have a special web version for the work performed… Read more »
America loves drama, so maybe throw in some twists to make it more competitive. We love Amazing Race and want to see it continue forever, so anything to keep it popular is okay by us, including a little more drama.
Just let the race be between regular folks. Old or young, rich or poor, hillbilly or city folks…..just a race of people like me. My family and friends love watching the Amazing Race!!!
I love the show, but I’m not a fan of the internet teams. The are all a little too annoying for me to enjoy the show. Please go back to casting “regular” people doing amazing things.
Looking at the numbers seems this last season is lower than last 3 seasons. I am I wrong? I didn’t watch the youtubers and seems many people did not like it after show 1
The Amazing Race is the most creative show on television! I love the idea of people stepping outside their comfort zone, being able to travel the world, challenging themselves, it is such a fabulous mix of mental, fiscal and emotional because there isn’t any script. It is the ONLY TV show that has ever held my interest for (almost) 15 years. I would give anything to be a part of it (SUPER FAN)! I even signed up for CBS online so that I can re-watch it over again. I do not have cable because most TV is just trash. I… Read more »
Dori, your love of this show has made ME into a superfan. And I have begun facing down some of my fears – I can’t wait to start #ourownamazingrace
I used to watch the Amazing Race, but after a while, it’s the same old groups. I’ve better things to do with my time than watch shows I do not enjoy anymore.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, CBS!!! I watch a lot of TV, but THE AMAZING RACE has always been my absolute favorite show… and it always will be. This is one of the most fun shows on TV and I’m always rooting for one couple or another… PLEASE keep this program going for a long, long time. Phil is just the best, too!
