Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
This is the first show in a very long time that has kept me on the edge of my seat fearing for the safety of the.”heroes”. Also, it keeps me watching the day and the clock to make sure I don’t miss anything. I will be very disappointed if is cancelled.
I am almost afraid to watch the remaining episodes because it is sounds like it is going to be cancelled. I LOVE this show – it’s painful to not know if it will be back. I want ohear that it has been renewed, so that I can actually still enjoy watching.
If you remove Braindead it’s probably because you are infected too!
This is a clever, hilarious show that helps us deal with the current political climate. Some shows need a little time, renew!
This is the type of original programming we need. It’s a political satire and sci fi drama rolled into one. A cable network or Netflix should save it. Like Limitless and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend this show needs to be promoted and advertised smartly. CBS gives it a better time slot and promotionall support, it could become a massive cult hit. Especially with the elections this November
one of the best shows on TV – studios are getting very strange these days – they keep the horrible series and kill the good ones.
ZERO chance of renewal. It’s not on SYFY, it’s on CBS. HBO doesn’t need to pick up a loser this bad. A renewal of this show should cost Les Moonves his job. That’s how atrocious a renewal would be.
A satirical show I enjoy streaming on Amazon. Sunday @ 10 is too late. If a second season held up this satire, I’d watch. The show recaps are pretty good as well.
I LOVE this very unusual show but realize it will not be renewed, so I’d be very happy if they give a real ending & not leave us hanging.
Personally, I thought this show is clever and funny, I would like to see it continue if not on CBS, then Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. You have to understand tongue in cheek political satire to enjoy this show, unfortunately most Americans want to watch Real Housewives and other crap.
Please RENEW..it is one of the best new shows on television…so unexpected!!
Great show! They really should turn the writers loose more, so they can add
more (deserved) political bite on both sides of the aisle. Also, maybe a little
more of the “horror” of being taken over by an alien race…not sleep walking
through it! I’m a regular watcher, PLEASE keep BrainDead!
Braindead is my favorite reality show. Hell, it’s my favorite news show.
A show with an outrageous sense of humor. I love it. It’s one of the few new shows worth watching.
HBO should pick it up – nobody watches network TV any longer – that’s why it’s losing its audience.
