Deadline reports Stana Katic and Tamala Jones are both leaving the Castle TV series on ABC, after the current, eighth season. Does this mean Castle will be cancelled? Not yet, but maybe soon. According to Deadline, it is likely ABC will renew Castle for a shortened ninth season. Will it be the last?
Reportedly, Nathan Fillion and the network are currently talking about renewing his contract. Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva says both the network and ABC Studios are behind the decision to write off Katic’s Detective Kate Beckett. Per Deadline, the co-star was never approached about re-upping. According to the story, she and Jones, who has played Lanie Parish since the series premiered, are both being let go for “budgetary” reasons.

Katic would not comment on the circumstances surrounding her exit. When asked about the departure, she told Deadline, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
Since Castle has not been renewed, ABC would not comment on any plans for the length of the potential Season 9 but confirmed to Deadline that Katic and Jones won’t be part of it.
“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said in a statement to Deadline. “Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.“

Jones played the whip-smart medical examiner Lanie Parish who was Beckett’s close friend and confidante. “I’ve had so much fun playing the wonderful and unfiltered Lanie over the past eight seasons,” Jones said in a statement to Deadline. “I will greatly miss the cast and crew – it’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people. Thank you to ABC for this opportunity and to the fans for their unwavering support. It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”
While the series is called Castle, Beckett’s character has been as prominent on the show, which evolved into a two-lead Moonlighting-style comedic drama. Castle creator Andrew Marlowe had always called the Castle/Beckett relationship central to the concept of the series.

Without Stana and Tamala I surely won’t watch next season. And it was the last one TV show I was watching.
I have watched Castle from the beginning, but in my opinion there is no show without Beckett. Bad move ABC. Either cancel or bring her back.

Once again corporations proving that they have NO RESPECT for their customers. Can’t you wrap up the show, that we have followed for 8 seasons, on a satisfactory note? Really, really disappointed!

I am a big fan of Nathan Fillion and will continue to watch. Love the chemistry between Castle and Beckett characters so I will miss her.
I really like Stana Katic and Tamala Jones in this show I do not think I will continue to watch the show without them.I think ABC should renew their contracts. They are a great part of the team of castle. I like the shows better then reality shows I do not watch them because they are boaring .

I am saddened to hear that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones are leaving the show. I had hoped that Castle and Beckett would have a happy ending, I don’t like seeing them apart. This show has been one of my guilty pleasures for its entire run (I don’t watch a lot of scripted television). Sure, a lot of the times the story lines and dialog are hokey and improbable, but then it can also be smart, charming and witty. might as well cut it off. With the 2 main characters gone, what’s the point?? I only watched it since Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion and Tamala Jones were on it.
Why even have the show if Becket isn’t in it?!
Won’t miss the character Beckett one bit. They made the character flacky and part of it is her doing. The only reason she signed on for season 8 was because they allowed her to be in on the production of many of her episodes. She believes the show is all about her but it’s called Castle. Wouldn’t mind seeing more father and daughter private eye cases, they work well together. Stanaic was a nobody until castle. Saw her the first time in a 2007 episode of CSI Miami, were she played a crazy killer. Don’t remember her in anything else.
FYI, everyone’s a nobody until they get a good role. She’s a fantastic actress.
Just end it. Not watching season 9 of Cattle without Beckett. People HATED having them separated and now you’re going to do so permanently?

Getting rid of any of the mains is a problem. But to be honest, I wouldn’t miss Hayley if they sent her packing. And not because she’s a woman, Anne.
I agree. Haley hasn’t done a whole lot for the show. It just reminded me of the time Criminal Minds wanted to cut costs and singled out the women also. they should start with recurring and leave the main ones alone. And you make a good point, you would think they would have learned after the separation that really made no sense at all.
I’ve watched Castle since it started 8 seasons ago. It definitely won’t be the same without Beckett and Lanie.I don’t know if I will watch it however it doesn’t sound like it will be on much longer anyway.
