Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I really hope that Person of Interest will be renewed. Long time since I found a series that cought my attention as quick as that one. Dont know if whatr I say makes any difference since I live in Sweden but they show it here on TV too and I just love it!
Keep Stalker on air for a few seasons! It really is a great show! Best show on CBS in my opinion.
CSI, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, NCIS, Madam Secretary, my wife and I find these all to be quite good. However, I am in my eighties and she in her seventies, so it seems that the opinions of the older generation is not relevant as to what shows are renewed.
We wonder why
I DVR 8 tv shows each week and 6 of them are on CBS. Although this has been a weak season for THE BIG BANG THEORY, it is still fun to watch. Same with CRIMINAL MINDS. I am really enjoying STALKER. Not the best show, but definitely engaging. TWO BROKE GIRLS is just plain fun to watch. I just turn my mind off and enjoy it. I really hope it gets a new season. NCIS NEW ORLEANS is really good, I love the cast! I have seen MOM and MIKE and MOLLY a couple of times and they are ok.… Read more »
Don’t cancell Stalker. It’s a new TV show that is different and has great potential to get better and better. The last couple of episodes are leaving us wanting more. It’s concluding on a suspenful finale. I only hope to see a season two for more of the loveable characters. Give it at least a second season. I love it. The characters work great with each other. Please don’t cancel. Loving it!
I and so many others loved RECKLESS and of course CBS didn’t give it a chance off it goes right in the middle of a fantastic ending we were suppose to see this year so they left us hanging ,,…Smart move CBS ..The show was so good it was right up there with Blue Bloods which I love also !!!!!!!..I wish some body would tell me how to persuade CBS to reconsider …They just don’t know they have a ringer out there…… good writers and very good characters …..I guess it is our loose …but I can’t give up the… Read more »
Saw were CSI is being canceled. According to the listings for February 15th show CSI last two shows then (Finale) is listed. I checked and according to one article CBS officially canceled it 3 months ago. 🙁
This may be the final season but it hasn’t been cancelled yet.
Please keep The Mentalist on – the story keeps getting better and better!!!
Why just the 18-49 year, do they not think anyone younger than 18 or older than 49 watch TV, and that we should be consulted on what we like, but no, only the select few get to decide what we watch, and most of it is crap.
Thats exactly why the popularity of stupid shows like 2 Broke Girls, and the Big Bang Theory.
It doesn’t say above that the Big Bang theory has been renewed
good catch. Thanks!
I just came in to watch the Mccarthy’s . I can’t find them so I google and find no story, so I end up on this website and it appears there ratings are just OK. Im not a big T V fan but I started watching and I have found myself getting more connected to the characters each week. Not sure I get it. I think to keep one of these shows alive you have to allow people to get connected to the characters. Not sure I can see how you get connected to a show after weeks of watching,… Read more »
During football and golf seasons I tape the next show after the one I want to watch so I catch it all.
Me, Too!
Especially Sunday night.
CBS could have a gold mine with The Good Wife, but they insist on airing it Sunday night–and it’s ALWAYS late. I have to tape The Good Wife, CSI, and the 11 p.m. news just to make sure I don’t miss anything.
I think more people would watch The Good Wife if it had a regular time slot.
I’ve been watching since the second episode: this is one of the best seasons, in my opinion.
So true. That has bothered me for years. I do the same thing. I used to miss the last 15 or so minutes and them had to watch the whole show on demand. I love the Good Wife, but haven’t watched as much lately. Need to catch up on it.
I missed CSI for the last two Sunday nights because of the cursed football games. I would like to know when and where on TV (I don’t stream and such) I will be able to watch my favorite TV show which got moved to Sunday. Are they planning to cancel it now because we can never tell when or where it will be playing? Pisses me off actually.
you and a lot of other people. the changes even messes with DVR viewing, so recording the show won’t help you either
I record the show after my faves during Football season and GOLF too… That was I can catch all of them.
Agreed 100%, Rob.
To air The Good Wife and CSI on Sunday night is ludicrous. As mentioned above, I set my DVR to tape from 9 p.m. – 12 midnight just so I don’t miss the shows. Of course I watch them the next day on DVR, and I believe DVR viewership counts less than live viewership. No wonder these shows aren’t in the Top Five.
I am a loyal viewer of CSI. Ted D is doing GREAT in that roll. It sees if you want to get rid of a show you start moving it around and people can’t find it. I DVR the show so I don’t miss it. Please don’t cancel its still a great show. Are you going to cancel C S I.
Good for Criminal Minds. I really like the new cast. Love Jennifer Love Hewitt!
so criminal minds is looking good? I really don’t understand these charts. ;.-;
keep going CSI!!!!
And Im ready 4 the next generation CSI:CYBER
