NBC has decided to pre-empt Chase once again but this time it’s looking a lot more permanent. The network has put the TV series on hiatus and replaced it with episodes of Minute to Win It. Though the network has not officially cancelled Chase, there’s certainly no compelling reason for NBC to bring it back.
Back in September, Chase debuted to mediocre ratings and things went quickly downhill from there. On Monday nights, Chase averaged just a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a meager 5.44 million viewers. When the series moved to Wednesday nights for the new year, the ratings only got worse. It’s currently the lowest-rated scripted series on the network.
NBC pre-empted Chase this week and replaced it with a double dose of Minute to Win It. That move paid off with the game show literally doubling the demo performance of Chase’s last original episode. Not surprisingly, NBC has now bumped the remaining episodes of Chase from the schedule.
The peacock network had given the show a full season order back in October but by December had trimmed that back from 22 to 18 installments. There are currently five unaired episodes of Chase on the shelf and there’s no word from NBC on when or if they’ll ever be aired.
What do you think? Will you miss Chase? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

Chase is a GREAT show…interesting characters, fast action, well-developed twists! We always recorded it if we could not be home. Its time slot had much competition, but it is so much better than most NBC shows. It has wonderful potential for many episodes to come. NO, I will not be watching a game show in its place. Bring it back!!!
Being pre-empted by “Minute to Win It”!! Come on! “Minute” is the most inane show ever. Hope Bruckheimer takes it to another network, maybe USA. USA extended L&O Criminal Intent’s life allowing it to finish this year. Besides they have a decent bunch of exceptional scripted shows in their stable. Network TV is definitely going down the drain.
I think they promoted it a lot prior to the fall season, but then they expected it to run on it’s own. As for the show, I loved it, but it was a little too brutal. And football wasn’t hurting it–Hawaii 5-o and Castle were. Similar audiences had to choose between an established hit (Castle) and a hyped up show with an automatic interest from the past(5-O). NBC needs to give Chase a chance and let more fans find it.
I will be VERY disappointed if NBC pulls this show. I thought (and still do think) it has great characters & potential! I watch ONE reality tv show & it’s NOT on NBC…(it’s also not Idol so don’t get worried). I finally got excited about Wednesday nights…Chase + SVU sounds like a GREAT lineup to me. Don’t be dumb NBC. Keep the show on the air!
Wow, I love Chase and hope if it gets canceled it will go to another network. No chance against WWE RAW, Monday night football, and then American Idol and Criminal Minds! I actually can’t even DVR Chase I watch it on the internet because of the shows it is up against!!! I still love this show as many do and it just needs to find a better time spot! REALLY LOVE this show…..
Why not put it on Tuesday when it would have absolutely no competition? It is up against Modern Family and Criminal Minds on Wednesday. This is a great show. I hope that if NBC is dumb enough to cancel, Bruckheimer will take it elsewhere.
Great show, bad time slots, no good promo. Maybe another network will pick it up!!!
We enjoyed Chase – hate to see it go. I doubt that we will be watching a game show in its’ place. When we have time to sit down and watch TV it is not a game show we watch.
This is such a load of crap. Why would they wanna pull one of their best shows. If they woud promote the show more it woud do a lot better. I think it should be on usa on Thursday right before burn notice and it would get a lot more viewers. That would be an amazing lineup for usa chase then burn notice. They just filmed some of chase like 2 miles from my house on lake texoma like a week ago, and I was really looking forward to that episode and now I probably won’t ever see it. I… Read more »
NBC is scattered. They don’t know what the hell they are doing
finally something to look foward to chase and then svu and know over.please give this show a break.I love this show chase and then svu is excellent. So give it a break.
I am very disappointed that Chase is off the air and possibly not coming back. The action was great and characters were well done! Please don’t make this go away!
The problem isn’t the show. It has a devoted fan base! The problem might be the time slot/ competing shows, inadequate NBC promotion, OR just executive impatience (wanting high ratings before the show gets its legs through devoted fan word of mouth, instead of NBC promotion, etc.) If you cancel the show, at least let the fans see ALL the episodes finished already, and then re-run them in syndication.
I can’t believe this show is being removed from the lineup. We finally get something that makes your heart pump and some genius decides it needs to go away. Please do not do this. This show would do great on USA and give us a chance to really get to know the characters. Reality shows are so numbing and frankly I can’t watch them because everything is so staged.
NBC, what do you expect Chase ratings to be when you put it up against Monday Night Football? It never even had a shot! Then, where was the communication on switching to Wednesday Nights, even after Monday Night Football was over! NBC didn’t promote this show one bit, and it is a shame because this show reminded me a lot of CSI (Same producer, Jerry Bruckheimer) and we know how big CSI got.
