In its freshman installment, the Code Black TV show earned low ratings for a CBS TV series. Instead of cancelling though, the network renewed it, with the requisite cast changes. Its numbers fell further last year, but it still wasn’t cancelled, probably thanks to licensing deal concessions. Will the third season see the audience grow or further diminish, and if so, how low can it go? Will Code Black be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned. **Status update below
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Rob Lowe, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, and Moon Bloodgood. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black. .
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
7/19 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Code Black averaged a 0.97 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.984 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Code Black TV series? Should this CBS TV show have been cancelled or renewed for season four?
**5/24/2017 Status Update: Code Black has been cancelled by CBS. Details here.
Love Code Black. The storyline always kept me watching. I found myself invested in the characters early on in the series which would bring me to tears more than once. I don’t understand why reality tv shows like Big Brother which promote negative character qualities, in my opinion can continue when a show that promotes working through life together in crisis situations can be canceled. Sad to see this go
We will keep desperate housewives, big brother or the Kardashians but we won’t keep an honest show normal people can relate to. This is ridiculous. Boycotting CBS
I loved this show. I work in the medical field and this show represented how hard we work and what we go through on a daily basis. I think this was the worst decision CBS could have made. I am very disappointed to lose another medical drama that was so realistic and true to the way we practice medicine and live our lives. I wish they would reconsider the cancellation because the last episode left me with more questions and desire to keep watching. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR DECISION. sincerely
CBS made a huge mistake canceling Code Black. One of the best shows on TV! Such a loss.
If it was on at 9 EST instead of 10 more people would watch it. We are in our 70s. Love the show and actors. We rarely watch anything after 10-10:30 PM
Code Black is awesome. I love Marcia Gay Harden and Rob Lowe and the whole cast. The show was well written and had me from the first airing. Please return this show to we the viewers. I hope if this can’t be done another network picks up the show and the cast and writers. I am very saddened of this cancellation.
Authentic medical show, great acting, never should have been cancelled!
I love this show! I hate to see it cancelled and think it should be given a chance. Move it’s spot because I think it can be a winner.
was very sorry to see show cancelled, was one of the most interesting shows to watch on TV with quality acting and directing.
Easily one of the best shows on TV. The writing & acting are excellent. A truly quality production (which is getting harder & harder to find on network TV – which is why we are watching more Amazon, Netflix, etc…). A whole lot of us were very disappointed to find out the show was canceled & if someone is smart enough to “pick the show up” for more seasons, we will all be there to watch.
The stories, drama, love interests, and medicine portrayed are all excellent. The dynamics are so edge of your seat every week. We wish that CBS would absolutely continue the Code Black series. Please bring it back for season four.
I am so angry they cancelled Code Black. Excellent show with a wonderful cast of characters. Looked forward to Wednesday nights. Even my husband enjoyed the show. Wish CBS would change its mind and bring it back. Get rid of some of the silly half hour comedy shows and some of the reality shows instead.
Very sad this show has been cancelled. It was a wonderful show and had a great cast. Typical, the good shows get cancelled. Agree with previous comments…final show of 2018 was fantastic! So many other stories that could be told.
P.S. The final show of 2018 was fantastic. Truly. But there’s a whole lot of room for more great stories.
My husband and I rarely agree on TV shows but we both loved Code Black and are very, very sorry to hear it has been cancelled. The ensemble cast is terrific, particularly Dr. Rorish and Jesse….so good and I absolutely loved the addition of Rob Lowe and his love interest. Here’s a strong exhortion to bring it back with all the main characters intact.
Sue—I agree with you. It is a rare excellent show with great acting and writers. No other medical show measures up. we never missed it and will miss it terribly if cancelled.
