Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.
But, what do you think? Do you like Common Law? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed? Which way do you think USA will go?
Love the Show! Renew for another season!!!
you have to renew this show, im in love with it omg. please dont cancel!
I really enjoyed this show I hope there’s a season two
RENEW. PLEASE. ITS A GREAT SHOW. I WILL VERY DISAPPOINTED IF IT IS DROPPED. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO PARTNERS SAYS ALOT ABOUT RELATIONSHIP. THEY ARE GREAT.
RENEW! Love this show! Has SSOOOOO much potential!
I will be VERY disappointed if they don’t renew this show. I absolutely LOVE Michael Ealy. And have always thought he should definitely be a BIG name in Hollywood!…He has some major talent, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s FINE AS HELL!…LoL
I definitely hope they pick up Common Law for a second season. We really enjoyed this show.
I like to watch USA because they have good shows but just don’t always showcase them on the best nights or timeslots. I would like to see another season of this show reminds me of the male version of Cagney and Lacey and that was a great show. Give it a chance to grow and evolve and put it in a better time slot and the show will probably had great ratings.
They should market it properly. This isn’t a serious show, not intense, not about hardcore action. It’s platonic and simple entertainment. Actually, there are few shows like this, which is why I like really it. If they wanted it to be a more serious show, they should’ve put more money in the production.
I assume they did that intentionally. Bu this should also mean that they shouldn’t hold this show to the same standard as f.e. White Collar and Suits.
Save this show, only show like it on TV
Love this show! Hilarious! Would love it to be renewed.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE renew Common Law. My whole family watches it together and we LOOOOVE it. It’s funny, touching and overall, sooo enjoyable. We didn’t originally watch it. We heard about it through a friend and watched on Netflix. We are hooked.
By all means, renew it. The first season is no a real test; it takes a while to sort out the characters and pass the word to get more people watching. Summer is not the best season for TV anyway. Give it some publicity and give it another shot.
I LOVE Common Law. There isn’t anything else to watch on Friday nights, and this show is just too good to be cancelled – please don’t even think of it. All of the characters/actors are great and seem so real in their roles. Please keep it on USA – it grows on you.
Love the show. Hope to see season 2
