As you may recall, ABC recently announced that they were reworking their Wednesday night schedule (in preparation for the return of Fox’s American Idol). That left fans of Day Break out in the cold as the Taye Diggs series would be pulled from the schedule after the December 27th episode had aired. There was some hope and speculation that the series would be moved to another night. We now know that’s not going to happen.
The Lost-replacing series Day Break has been pulled from the schedule even earlier than expected. The ratings for Day Break have continued to fall since its debut and the latest was no exception. The sixth episode, entitle “What If They Find Him,” attracted only 3.1 million households. As a result, ABC has yanked the drama effective immediately. Repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim will fill 8-10pm Wednesdays for the next two weeks (both sitcoms begin new seasons in January on Wednesday nights).
There are seven unaired episodes and, as of now, there are no plans to air them on the network (joining fellow dramas The Nine and Six Degrees). The good news is that ABC has said they will post the remaining episodes online, with a new episode being posted every Thursday for the next seven weeks. They may decide to release the episodes for purchase online via iTunes but I’m guessing that will have a lot to do with viewer demand.
I have never seen a show so interesting, I couldn’t believe that someone was even smart enough to make a show like this. And to find out that ABC replaced it with reruns of According To Jim, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ABC??? I don’t even know how to express my anger!!! I WANT SOME ANSWERS!!!!
In the word of the great Shaq “Whoever made this decision, should have there college degree Revoked” I really dont understand this decision, Why replace the show now instead of waiting until American idol comes on.
In the End they are gonna make producers not wanna air anything on their station.
FOR EVERY DECISION, THERE IS A CONSEQUENCE.
This is NUTS! Daybreak was the bomb for several reason’s:
1- highly talented and solid “diverse” cast-unfortunately hard to find, particularly on ABC!
2- well written!
3- cinematography-shot like a movie!
Why is moving the show to another night not an option? Network tv makes really interesting decisions on what shows they’ll provide a long leash versus those that get the short leash. Is it TRUELY all about the ratings?
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Okay, I guess you have to give credit to ABC for picking up this kind of show. It’s a risk. No doubt about that. But they seem incapable of following through. The way they behave, you’d think the people in this world who enjoy a complex and well-told story and simple quality of entertainment seem to be a growing minority and I am just so tired of being in that minority and being crapped on by the big corporations who don’t care about me because I don’t make them enough money. Oh it isn’t getting ratings — PULL IT!… Read more »
My wife and I rush the kids to bed on Wednesday nights to watch Day Break uninterupted. Now that the show is off the air I don’t know what we will do on Wednesday nights…It certainly won’t be watching “Life According to Jim or George Lopez.” What are they thinking in the board rooms at ABC???? Day Break is a fresh and interesting show that needs to be on the air!!! How can they just cut the show off in the middle of the story? Thats bull!!! Bring the show back!!!
“What If It’s Just A Dream”…i turned on ABC tonight for DayBreak and i couldn’t find it.I got frusturated, went online, and discovered that it had been cancelled.Maybe…if i wake up tomorow, i can do things differently!!!Curses to ABC!!!
That’s a horrible thing. I overheard this news on the radio…and was upset. Too many people i know loved that show and awaited it every Wednesday. Are we even gonna know how the show ends? This makes no sense….NOW WHAT????
What sense does it make to take off a good (NEW) show and replace it with re-runs of an (old) show if ratings is the real issue. You get viewers excited about a new show and don’t even show any of the remaining episodes. That’s network TV for you. Please lets us know how much the re-runs boosts up the ratings!! This says alot about ABC.
Thank you ABC now i’ll just play Day Break in my head and try to figure out whats going to happen next. Are you kidding me, i guess i’ll start watching wife swap!???
Here are my favorite TV shows: 1. Day Break 2. 24 3. Lost I got hooked by Day Break immediately after the first two episodes. How could people not like it? If people like 24 then Day Break is even better!!! Something must be wrong with the viewer numbers! What sadden me more is that now there will not be another season of Day Break cause ABC is not going to make them after the 13 episodes. Things would be different if the Day Break viewer number shows the reality – it is better than 24, and MUCH better than… Read more »
I’m not surprised ABC did this. They poorly promote shows, throw them on the air in bad slots, repeat episodes constantly, and wonder why viewers switch channels. After all, this is the micromanaging network that moved from first to fourth place in one season because of management incompetence. They waste the momentum of hits like Lost, Gray’s, and Housewives by dumping junk shows behind them. A third-grade elementary school class with a dartboard could do a better job of secheduling than the ABC “executives.”
I enjoyed Day Break, and I’m disappointed that it’s gone. I’ve watched it every week, and I went to watch it tonight, and found some stupid sitcom was on instead (actually, in my opinion, all sitcoms are stupid, and just hearing them irritates me).
By the way, will this series be avaiable on DVD? I would pay to find out the ending of this drama.
I am not an avid television watcher, but I am a very big Taye Diggs fan. I decided to check Daybreak out. I fellin love withthe show and I couldn’t wait for Wednesday nights to come just so I could watch it. It is a shame. You could have at least ran the show till the end. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!
There are not may shows that are worth watching and the one show that has a very interesting plot, you remove for George Lopez? I am very disappointed ABC.
Day break was a good show, I agree with a lot of other people that the show didn’t get enough time to prove itself before yanking it. Plus it’s the holidays and most shows are not airing until next year anyway. We’re all waiting for the new Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty, etc. Is George Lopez and According to Jim all that more popular than Day Break? I will be watching the show online and I wish the executives would rethink this before totally nailing Day Break’s coffin.
