AMC is going off their diet. Vulture reports the network has cancelled Dietland after only one season.
The dark comey centers on Daisy Chain magazine ghostwriter, Plum Kettle (Joy Nash). As this perpetual dieter starts to broaden her perspective on self-worth and feminism, someone starts taking out men who have been accused of sexual abuse and assault. Now Plum is caught between two worlds, while she is still trying to make sense or her own life. The AMC series also stars Julianna Margulies, Robin Weigert, Adam Rothenberg, Tamara Tunie, and Erin Darke.
Despite a star cast and critical acclaim, Dietland never really caught on ratings-wise. Season one averaged a .10 rating in the 18-49 demo with only 433,000 viewers.
What do you think? Have you seen Dietland? Do you think the show deserves a second season?
Bring it back. The show just started basically, give people a chance to catch up. I didn’t realize how good it was till I started watching just the last few episodes. I believe it does deserve a 2nd chance. Great actors on the show & makes the audience a part of it. Almost makes us a bit stronger. So, I say yes, bring it back!!!!!
I am horrified to learn tonight Dietland was cancelled. My sister and I would watch it together. It was brilliant. Well it seems to be a season for networks cancelling their good shows; several other networks have cancelled the best in order to perpetuate dull stuff. Dietland was perhaps “too” cutting edge to survive of course, but I admired the network for daring to be this good. Meanwhile Halt and Catch Fire was allowed to reach a natural finish, but the only other thing AMC has to interest me in the least is Humans, and sadly the third season of… Read more »
I really liked the show – so much truth. The plot always had you on the edge of your seat.
This is so sad that they cancelled this show. I truly loved the story, the message and the acting was superb.
Sad to hear that Dietland was cancelled. It was a powerful show about women. It should have been given more of a chance.
This is pure irony: a true female empowerment story cancelled by male-dominated and status-quo perpetuating institutions (including their viewers). It’s disappointing that the network didn’t have the insight to be at the forefront of the revolution that needs to come and that will come. I’m distraught that the show has been cancelled and hope that the producers find another way to share the story and make their message heard.
Good. This show was pure trash. It showed that men should be subservient to women and that women can kill men if they think the man got away with a crime.
I love Dietland! Please bring it back for season 2!
PLEASE BRING DIETLAND BACK. I LOVED THIS SHOW. THE SHOW WAS INTRIGUING AND KEPT ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE AMAZING.
I thought Dietland was excellent. Brilliant writing and acting, and a fascinating story line. I hope they manage to bring it back somehow!
Dietland is the most brilliant TV ever produced. It is a work of art. Women are portrayed in all our complexities, better than anywhere else in TV or in movies. The acting is excellent. Scripts are brilliant. We are impoverished by its cancellation. I believe it will find a cult following, much like Star Trek, if allowed another season.
I totally agree
Completely agree!!!
I think it may have been the after show, where they talked about what was just shown, that doomed the serries. The after show had a politically Left leaning bend to it. I t was enough for me not to want to see anymore.
YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD. THE AFTER-SHOW EXPRESSED AS MUCH OBJECTIVITY AS “JENNIFER” CULT. ALSO,
NO ONE HAS EVER ADDRESSED THE DEEPLY IMBEDDED, TOTALLY PC, PREJUDICE TOWARDS THE OVERWEIGHT. THERE WAS THE MESSAGE OF SELF-ACCEPTANCE SO MANY OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE NEED TO ADOPT, AS WELL. THE SERIES WAS DARK. YES. I DON’T THINK SANE PEOPLE WALK AROUND WITH THAT MUCH HATRED TOWARDS THE MALE SPECIES. STILL, IT WAS WELL WRITTEN, WELL ACTED AND SHOULD HAVE GONE ON.
No need to use caps lock….
I’m not surprised because having watched only the first episode, it was so dreadful that I couldn’t bring myself to watch another.
Such a shame bearing in mind the quality of the cast.
They must have known quite early on that they had a duff one on their hands.
Sorry Phil, but you don’t get to vote on an ENTIRE SERIES having just seen one episode. ;P I mean, c’mon! You don’t even comment on the material (because clearly you have nothing to source).
I liked it – I thought it was interesting. I just kept forgetting to watch. I love Julianna in ANYTHING she does, but I guess I won’t miss it, because I just completely forgot it was on !!
Good, it’s not a Comedy when your promoting Terrorist Acts.
LOL. Terrorist… acts?! There are HUNDREDS of television shows from the POV of a murderer, a rapist, even _LITERAL_ terrorists (which… these women were not). What are you EVEN talking about?! Whether comedy, drama, romance, or mystery of the week, you’re incredibly incredibly wrong.
