What’s This TV Show About?
A CW soap opera, Dynasty stars Grant Show, Alan Dale, Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley, James Mackay, Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley, Rafael de la Fuente, Brianna Brown, and Nick Wechsler. The drama centers on the wealthy Carrington family and the energy empire they must defend against the Colbys and other adversaries. Although Fallon (Gillies) is the heir apparent to father Blake’s (Show) company, she grows suspicious when she learns he is marrying the beautiful, much younger Cristal (Kelley). When Fallon sets out to expose the interloper as a fraud, her actions cost her her father’s trust, so she forges an alliance with his rival, Jeff Colby (Adegoke). Blood is thicker than water, but whether it’s dearer than oil remains to be seen.

Telly’s Take
Dynasty got off to a slow start in the ratings and the numbers haven’t gotten better. However, ratings are less important to The CW than the other networks. The series is based on an existing CBS property and Netflix releases the show internationally so, word is, a deal with the latter makes Dynasty profitable right out of the gate. Well, from the billboards around LA and the advertisements on TV it looks like this show favors the “Harvey Weinstein” point of view….. ABHORRENT
It lost me when it became a venue for politics. I choose to be entertained not to encourage the producers politics
I actually like the show but its destined for failure IMHO. As I said, I’m Into it but who is this shows audience? “Old” people who watched the original in the 1980s won’t want a remake and that’s not really CWS audience anyway. Young people , and I’m thinking of the under 14 set who love Riverdale might be interested because of the inclusion of Elizabeth Gilles who WS a big star on Nickelodeon. The ads are really pushing her involvement. However as a forty year old mother of a tween, I don’t feel comfortable watching it with my daughter.… Read more »
I think the audience is 13-35 yr olds, it’s definitely not for old people. I’m 14 and I LOVE it. Also, just don’t watch it with your daughter then. I think they should definitely use more advertisements for Dynasty (esp3cially on YouTube and tv) as that would definitely boost the amount of watchers
A sequel series featuring the original cast but focusing on the younger offspring might have been a good idea (as long as they didn’t get the balance wrong like TNT’s nuDALLAS reboot did). Even a MAD MEN-style prequel set in the ’50s and ’60s about Blake’s and Alexis’ backstory (which I know the creators wanted to do) might have worked… But a crass, silly remake set in Atlanta? It almost CAN’T work — which begs the question: who were the executives who signed off on this version of a follow-up series??
Exactly chuckie. who were those beeps who greenlighted this insult ? Gordon Thompson said it was an insult and joan Collins said she was proud to be part of the true dynasty series.’ Why they did not continued the stories like they did with dallas bringing back the original cast and new blood playing the now grown up kids lb, Krystina, danny, lauren and dex’s kid with sable ? Even a prequel set in the 50s-60s could work. they could start with blake’s funeral paying respects also to john forsythe bringing back the family together and from there the show… Read more »
