What’s This TV Show About?
A British-American Hulu drama, The First stars Sean Penn, Natascha McElhone, LisaGay Hamilton, Hannah Ware, Keiko Agena, Rey Lucas, James Ransone, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Melissa George, Brian Lee Franklin, and Oded Fehr. The story centers on the astronaut crew attempting to be the first humans on Mars, as well as the families they’ll leave behind.
The First has been cancelled so there won’t be a second season. Could it be revived someday? Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Unless they decide to publicize viewership statistics, it is difficult to predict whether Hulu will cancel or renew The First for season two. While there are positive reviews, many note that this is not the type of fare sci-fi fans may expect. Will that help or hurt its chances? Stay tuned. Why cancel this great series? Makes mo sense at all .
I have only had Hulu for a short time (thanks to The Handmades tale) bee trying out some of there other original content, and this is by far the gem of the bunch. I’ve given many of the highly rated shows a try, and none has compared with this.
Hulu, if you truly want to build yourself as more than a cord cutters friend, you need this type of original content. And for God’s sake, if you start a story you owe it to your customers to complete it.
Renew please
I really hope they reconsider. This series has great potential and you know as well as I do great television series takes time to develop and that’s what season one was I think they have a lot more to show us in regards to these actors and this story
“The First” is one of the best series I have watched in a very long time. As a science fiction, it actually had substance, good subplots which made it much more than a “mission to mars” movie, and had an air of reality that so many other similar stories have missed. While there were some typical gaffs relating to the realities of space travel, it seemed remarkably believable, and accurate. This is a great show and I would love to see a season 2. We watched the whole first season in a few nights. The acting was great and the story compelling.

It was a fantastic show! We would love to see second season!
I just want to say that this is was an incredible show. Full of human intensity. I don´t need a second season for this one. Despite it would be cool, in my opinion, the season values by itself and it concludes nicely. In my opinion, this is a human drama, not really a sci-fi show, a second season would be always more technical and out of the season one context. Sean Penn and Anna Jacoby-Heron did a marvelous job. Nevertheless I support a second season if that comes to happen !
Well said. Even as I crave more of this story, I know it can end here and keep and amazing life of it’s own. I do wonder if the producers felt that a continuing story just wouldn’t live up to season one.
I’ll rather watch more of The First than Game of Thrones.
Yeah just another show that was awesome for some studio decide to can it. What is up with Hulu and all these other companies? This show was awesome. It was cool to see Sean Penn back in the saddle. They never even gave this show a chance to kick in considering it got a rating of 6.3 out of 10 and favorable reviews. Hulu can **** off. Hope someone else picks this up but highly unlikely.
