From creators Carol Hay and Michelle Ricci, the Frankie Drake Mysteries TV show is a Canadian mystery drama that originated on CBC. Unfolding in 1920s Toronto, the series follows the city’s first female detective, Frankie Drake (Smith), and her partner in crime-solving, Trudy Clarke (Riley).
While there are plenty of cases the Toronto police shy from, the same cannot be said of Frankie and Trudy. Unbound by convention, the Drake Private Detectives are adept at turning their gender disadvantage into an advantage.
The cases Frankie and Trudy take on bring them in contact with people from all walks of Toronto life — from the wealthy and privileged to beauty queens, and even church choirs.
These women do not know the meaning of the word fear, and while that often lands them in deep trouble, they’re always able to dig their way out. A new day is dawning, and Frankie and Trudy are more than ready for it, even if the world isn’t quite ready for them.

I know its been canceled but yet again a good show that finally found its audience only to be canceled. Shame on the studio ex’s. Shame on the bean counters who have no creative instinct.

Frankie Drake is fabulous. I was missing the long running Murdoch Mysteries and then the wonderful FD came along. It’s gorgeous to watch, strong independent characters, interesting plots and so much fun. Deserves to run at least as long as Murdoch!! Thank you for this gem! Love watching beautiful sets and costumes & historical Toronto all the way from Australia! Go Canada!
