TV shows on Starz typically draw pretty low ratings — even Outlander, the cable channel’s hit series. Could The Girlfriend Experience and its provocative subject matter end up drawing a big crowd? Does traditional television viewing even matter since the entire series is being made available on-demand? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On The Girlfriend Experience, a law student and law firm intern named Christine Reade (Riley Keough) becomes intrigued when a friend introduces her to “girlfriend experiences”; sexual encounters between an escort and a client that involve sexual intimacy and some degree of emotional intimacy. She quickly learns to navigate and manipulate the politics of both her worlds to get what she wants. The rest of the cast includes Paul Sparks, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kate Lyn Sheil, and Amy Seimetz.
