Would you have watched another season of Grace and Frankie? Recently, co-creator Marta Kauffman spoke with the Los Angeles Times about ending the Netflix TV show after seven seasons.
The comedy series stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as unlikely friends who come together after their husbands announce they’re gay and in love. The cast also includes Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, and June Diane Raphael.
In the interview, Kauffman revealed it wasn’t the creators’ idea to end Grace and Frankie:
“It was a combination of things. Netflix isn’t doing long-term series anymore. And we are really lucky that we got the seventh season. I think when we started, we imagined seven seasons. But, really, this is the kind of decision that comes from Netflix. But as sad as I am that it’s ending, there’s something that makes sense about it.”
Season six of Grace and Frankie is now streaming on Netflix.
What do you think? Do you watch Grace and Frankie? Do you want more seasons?
My mother, 78 and I 57, both just loved the series. We would definitely watch another season! Our favorite episodes are the ones centered around Grace and Frankie. We have rewatched the series together and fast forwarded through most of the extended family and the whiny men. The stars are the shows namesake and the funniest parts for us. Thank you for the laughs and talk Netflix into another series for us!
Fantastic talent on this show. Couldn’t get higher caliber people anywhere. I will miss the quality of tried and true actors who don’t all look alike: men with beards and women with shoulder-length hair who talk their lines like it’s a race to get as many out in a minute as possible. The facial expressions and emoting of these experienced stars is precious and disappearing too fast.
Amen!!!
I don’t know what Netflix is thinking! This is a FANTASTIC show with a devoted audience. Could it be an ageism issue? Come on Netflix – the creator, actors and viewers are not ready for this to end…why are you?
I, being one of many I’m sure, sooo agree with you, Pat! isn’t there SOMETHING we can do to convince Netflix (or another network) to continue this series??? It sooo helps those of us 60 (and older…as well as younger) FEEL the energy…and make changes to our lives!
Great show. Mistake to cancel it It is well done and accurately describes the issues of being involved in a long term marriage with a major unspoken issue of closer homosexuality. I have absolutely loved the show. So happy to hear there was going Roman 8 th season. Sad that is not going to happen
I wish there were a way to continue this show, I am a big fan and I don’t understand why Netflix is not doing longer running series anymore. People like more not less, we like to see how things play out from beginning to end not just left in the air wondering.
Amen…and, needed even when “times are better”, sooo needed now! There just aren’t enough shows for people 50 and above (70, heck, 80 and above) out there! And the CLASS and ENERGY of these actors! There MUST be something we, the viewers can do!
It would be Wonderful if the show could continue it is my favorite program..
I think this show should keep going and the way it ended there certainly could be an 8th season. If Netflix doesn’t want it then Hulu or Amazon or Apple could pick it up.
More of us need to speak out!!! If we could start a petition (Netflix)…maybe, just maybe…this show is sooo encouraging to audience both younger and older then ages the actors/actresses play!
It would be a novel idea if the network allowed for more seasons if the writers and actors were in agreement. It’s refreshing to see a program that revolves around older individuals who are vital, funny, creative and adventurous. If the network thought of their viewers and understood the joy we receive from this program, and the escapism it provides from the volition world we live in right now, they would allow Grace and Frankie to continue several more seasons.
My daughter and I started watching as our” together” program in 2015. We pray for each season not to be the last! Given the natural progression of things we thought that some of the younger actors would eventually take over and work the show. Please, don’t stop this wonderful. Witty program!
Maryann, you wrote, EXACTLY what I was unable to articulate! Thank you so much, and…again, I just wish there was something the viewers of this FANTASTIC show could do to keep it coming!!!
I love grace and frankie and would continue to watch ad infinitum. Jane and lily are so good together, as are Sam and martin. I can only hope to be as sharp and funny as i get older. They are an inspiration to have fun and enjoy life.
Hopefully, all the great responses posted here can change the corporate mind of NETFLIX. I imagine most of us would keep watching long after the funerals of the four main characters. Laughs out loud as the result of clever writing are very few these days. F&G provides the laughs begins thinking about things we thought we couldn’t share with others. It would be a bit more lonely without their stories.
I love the series! Love the characters. Just started watching the series from the beginning for the 4th time. Got through season 6 too quickly!
Why are they cancelling this show? It’s great. Everyone I mention it to has seen it and liked it. I think the producers don’t get that women our age need and deserve role models, funny women, women to relate to our age. I will definitely be sad seeing this show end. I looked forward to and waited for each new season. The reality is that I will skip around other providers looking for shows. I will miss these characters a lot.
Totally agree, Christine! This show gives a woman of my age (gulp…over 70!) a reason to…”apply my makeup…go shopping…hold my head up high”…Don’t take it away from us!
Yes i want season 8, 9 and 10….. its the only relevant show on T V. It inspires me to stay healthy, have a sense of humor and not give in to being older than i want to be. I look forward to January to watch the new season and re-watch the previous seasons again (all of them). If you must take it off ….it must be replaced with a clone (a show relevant to seniors and starred in and written by seniors. You must continue to prove there is life after retirement ..more to expect than trips to the… Read more »
Paula! I (just one of many, I am sure) so agree with every word you wrote! A REASON FOR US TO GET UP, APPLY OUR MAKE UP, AND HOLD OUR HEADS UP HIGH!!! (a reason to face the day with a smile!)
Please keep show going….
Marta Kaufmans shows are always a great social view on what our humanity could be in this world of chaos, if we all tried. With Tomlin’s “little girl in a giant chair”&”the operator” and Fondas early activism and great performances, they both have been part of the American venacular since I can remember. Thank-you Netflix for this combination of our three greatest, very modern day, American heroes in Grace&Frankie.. Our society, both young and old will be at a loss if in some way or manner this show cannot be continued. Who thought Jane Fonda could be so funny and… Read more »
