Pay-for-view channel Starz has announced that Gravity won’t be back for a second year. The show completed its run last week after just 10 episodes.
Gravity is a dramatic comedy that follows a group from an eccentric out-patient program for suicide survivors. Co-created by Eric Schaeffer and Jill Franklyn, the cast includes Schaeffer, Ivan Sergei, James Martinez, Krysten Ritter, Rachel Hunter, Robyn Cohen, Seth Numrich, and Ving Rhames.
Starz had high hopes for the series but it just never caught on. The season (now series) finale attracted an invisible 0.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 54,000 viewers. To no surprise, Starz has admitted that neither Gravity nor Party Down will be returning for another round.
In a statement, Stephan Shelanski, Starz’ executive VP of programming, said, “After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity. We’re grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup.”
What do you think? Did you watch Gravity? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I really liked this show! While I understand the economics involved and that occasionally good shows get canceled because of poor ratings, what I do not understand is the economics of not wrapping up a story. There is nothing wrong with a good show being limited to 10 or 13 episodes, as long as they are complete. Without an ending their can be no hope for future DVD sells or international marketing of the series. These too are sources of income. Such a well cast, well written, and well acted show like Gravity would certainly make up the costs of… Read more »
I’m thinking it didn’t catch on because it wasn’t on the SciFi chanel. I didn’t find out about this series untill I found it as a ox set in Wal-Mart. I would have een glued to it had I only known about it. Let’s face it, the stuff ABC usually airs doesn’t usually attract folks who like sci-fi. i never watch that chanel…
sono veramente dispiaciuta per la sospensione della serie Gravity. Qui in Italia piaceva molto. Gli attori sono tutti bravissimi.
spero ancora ci sia una seconda stagione
I just found out Gravity was cancelled!!!Why is it everytime I really like a show it´s cancelled?Carnivale, Dollhouse, now Gravity…I ´ve had enough of unended stories, it´s really anoying.
whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! im so sad i looked forward to new episodes every week!
I’m really mad that they canceled Gravity. That was a great show. But it wasn’t the 1st show that I loved 2 be short lived and it probably won’t be the last. Welcome 2 the real watching TV world.
Loved this show! It was quirky and different – the characters were very strong, and the storyline kept interest… The “Detective” … well! what a character – disgusting but so darn funny :o) Wish it had NOT been cancelled…
I feel that the TV networks don’t advertise new shows properly – its like when “Defying Gravity” was cancelled… they had pushed it as “Grey’s Anatomy in Space”… when there was absolutely NO comparison t0 Greys! Hence they got the wrong audience, who stopped watching… Sci Fi fans should have loved it…
Eric Schaeffer killed Gravity, plain & simple.
According to most boards no one liked him, he
has a gross personality and since he was a creator they gave him free rein and he really killed it. I really loved the rest of the show.
I’m absolutely floored by Party Down being cancelled!
That was a great and well-received show (i thought!)
I just started to watch Party down and Gravity because all other channels are garbage and now I see these shows are canceled. Finally shows people can watch that aren”t reality shows and free to networks and boring repeats! Why put these shows on to begin with and advertize them like crazy and then curtains?
I liked Gravity – it started a bit a slow, but was pickiing up.
Sigh, I really enjoyed Gravity.
This is the EXACT reason why you never end your first season on a cliffhanger unless you know for a fact that you will be renewed.
I’d like to say “DAMN YOU STARZ”, but if the show didn’t pull in viewers, you can’t completely place the blame on them.
I actually watched the whole season of Gravity, and I was never around to watch it when it came on but I always DVR’ed it. I thought it was really interesting and I started to get into it, and I think it might’ve gotten better but also might not have since they were moving on from their suicidal tendencies and actually being happy. Personally I think they ended it on a nice cliffhanger though.
I can’t believe that no one watched gravity.. I LOVED it.. I can’t stand the way the first (and only) season ended because of all the unanswered questions.. sucks..
Gravity had great character development, good story lines, and I loved watching it on TMN on demand.
It should have received more promotion by the network, as the writing/acting was exemplary. The fault lies with Starz in not marketing it properly and also for not giving it a chance to catch on. Seems like a no brainer to me and it deserves a second season.
number1 I love gravity didn’t know about it. My son turned me on to it I watched all the episodes in1 weekend now I feel cheated
starz it leaves a bad feeling that I wasted my time fix or will cancel starz or at least make a2 hour movie to end it properly
Gravity is great tv show, i’m also disappointed.
I thought Gravity was a very entertaining show. I looked forward to each episode and I’m truly diappointed that it will not return.
