It has been more than 20 years since Michael Landes was fired from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and the actor has finally revealed how he felt when he was let go from the series after its first season.
Landes starred alongside Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher on the ABC series, but he was replaced by Justin Whalin. Whalin took over the role of Jimmy Olsen from season two onward.
Landes revealed the following about his firing to Digital Spy:
“I was 21 and at the end of the first year they just said, ‘We’re not going to have you back for any more.’ “They said it was because I looked too much like Dean Cain, who played Clark… and Teri Hatcher, who played Lois. Part of me was like, ‘So what, I didn’t look like them 22 episodes ago?’ At the time, I was bummed out, because Lane Smith [who played Perry White] was a mentor and a good friend of mine, so I was upset to leave. But then you end up getting so many other jobs. Had I stayed, I would’ve just been the third fiddle on that show for years.”
Michael Landes now stars on Hooten & The Lady, which airs on Sky1. Were you a Lois & Clark fan? Were you surprised by the Olsen switch on the show? Tell us what you think.
