Last season, NBC launched a dozen new scripted TV shows. Some found success in the ratings but they schedule had a few ratings successes but far more were cancelled. Which will be cancelled or renewed during the 2016-17 season? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America’s Got Talent, Blindspot, The Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption, The Carmichael Show, Chicago Fire, Chicago Justice, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Dateline NBC, Emerald City, First Dates, The Good Place, Grimm, Hollywood Game Night, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Big Shots, Little Big Shots: Forever Young, Marlon, Midnight, Texas, The New Celebrity Apprentice, The Night Shift, Powerless, Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, Superstore, This Is Us, Timeless, The Voice, The Wall, and World of Dance.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Blacklist is bad, should be canceled!
We just love The Good Place. It’s nice to see a clever show, not full of violence and gore. One you can watch and not cringe. Can’t wait to see some new episodes.
This Is Us is one of the best shows in TV history. Simply beautiful!
Right now, Blindspot and Superstore are dead even. If the ratings are the same at the end of the season and Blindspot is cancelled, Superstore better go with it.
Black List — BEST SHOW ON TV — DO NOT CANCEL!!!
Blacklist is the best show on tv
Black List has been one of our favorite shows though can’t stand Liz. We feel this show has slacked off this season so far.
Blacklist is by far the best show on TV. I hope this one does not get cancelled
Blacklist is the best show on NBC. Sick of reality TV
I see that Chicago Meds ratings could be better but I hope it doesn’t get canceled. I know a lot of people who love it. Besides This Is Us, its one of the best shows on TV. Much better than Grey’s Anatomy.
Chicago Med won’t get cancelled. It was moved to the 9 pm Thursday spot this season. The 8 pm Wednesday. and 9+10 pm slots on Thursday are tough ones for NBC.
Three of the bottom four shows for NBC are The Blacklist, Blindspot and Chicago Med. All of these shows were moved from the timeslots that they were in last season. All of these shows should be renewed or the moron at NBC who moved them FIRED. It’s obvious that every single decision was a mistake. Is there any responsibility at NBC?
I am a big fan of timeless. I hope that it continues to do well. I like it much better than anything on NBC right now.
Grimm going to be final season sadly upset about it push back until January set to schedule for a premiere.
GRIMM, When is the start date for the new season?
